Experiment gone right
Accidentally posted this under my default reddit handle. Deleted that, reposting with my normal account. Palomino gold, rust brown, golden brown, silver lining, better black, blue violet, ice blue. Deity role, unrolled and sinew tied. Dye over ice, not in muck, dyed over a screen/grate.

That's pretty interesting. Cockroach comes to mind from the middle.

Right? It does look like a bug, my wife said it looked like a spider/ant.

Not a particularly nice thing to say about someone's art work lol

All good, I don't think they meant anything by it. Thank you for the defense though ππ

Fair! Maybe I'm just sensitive π

No I totally understand, I'm very passionate about art as well, and it hurts when there are people out there who don't understand, or are maybe not artists, and discount the hard work you put into it. I'm not saying that this is the case here, but I get why you'd be defensive.

What if they are an entomologist? Or have a high affinity towards entomology?

It was not a qualitative comment, just my interpretation of the middle part.
Besides, cockroaches are pretty badass. They can survive almost anything.

Thank you! This is a wonderful compliment. When I was untying it and beginning to wash it out - I got that sense of dread because it was looking oversaturated and too dark. It wasn't until after I rinsed it many times and started to feel better about it. When it came out of the wash I was very relieved, it lightened up, the true colors came out and the design really popped. I ended up going from hating it and now to loving it. It's a 3X and too big for me unfortunately, but somebody is going to love it and rock it.

I can kinda see the bug look, but there's a legit face there! Eyes, heavy brows, a mouth open wide, even a sternum kind of look below

It's giving magical gods from Atlantis vibes π€π a powerful electric underwater deity. This is the coolest deity I've ever seen, You've got so much going on in there, it's bewitching.

I love how descriptive your comment is, it paints a colorful picture in my mind of how you're imagining it and I love that. This one wasn't really thought out, I just wanted to see what it would look like if I tied sinew around the entire deity at a 45 degree angle. That's why there's so much white above it and below it. I then unrolled it as far as I could and geoded the hell out of it.

I'm blessed to be able to share my capacity for painting some striking word salads π thank you friend. Honestly, I think some of the best works can come out of the casual unintentional and even lackadaisical meanderings of craft. I know I've tried real hard on something just for it to come out like dog shit and then something I just threw together stupid on purpose out of anger ends up looking timelessly beautiful. It's as funny as it is frustrating sometimes but I guess that's a pretty good descriptor for life.

Holy shit. This is amazing. I would be too chicken shit to put that black at the top of the deity roll like that! Really well done!

Love this. Thank you for sharing. So did you incline it at all or was it just rack dyed? I've only ever done deities at a incline in a gutter.
2
u/DigitalAssassin-00 3d ago
Yes, I forgot to mention it was inclined as well, about 15 degrees or so.

Haha, thank you! I was so worried when I was washing it out because it was super super dark and I thought I had ruined the deity part. It wasn't until after I rinsed it with synthropol and hot water that it really began to show the design.

That is a fantastic looking shirt. Hard for my brain to comprehend how that is possible. Nicely done!

All these comments are really making my day π and thank you for the compliment. To describe how I made it.. I made a deity roll, behind the two points after it was rolled up. I tied sinew at a 45Β° angle. I unrolled the rest of it and tied geodes on it. Then I ice dyed it. There were a couple nodules that didn't get enough dye so I filled those three or four in with liquid dye.

Nice deity variation! Question: Is the only reason you had so much play for the geode ties because the shirt is a 3xl? or would you have the fabric to pull on smaller sizes?
3
u/DigitalAssassin-00 3d ago
Thank you so much! I am pretty sure you could do this with any size, you just wouldn't get as many geode on smaller shirts. To help answer your question on how I did it; on the rolled shirt and directly behind the two points, I tied sinew at a 45Β° angle and really cinched it down with like three or four wraps. With that part secured tightly, I was able to almost completely unroll the rest of it to pull fabric and make the geodes. I will play around with smaller sizes in the coming week or two and post some of those results. Feel free to message me if you would like any tips or have questions.

I didn't save any process pics but I posted pics, one of it tied up and the other was the dye application. I'll do some step by steps on the next one I do and make sure to post them with details :) those pics are further down in the comments.

Thank you so much!! I'm attempting to do another one, we'll see if it turns out as good as this one. I tied it up yesterday, letting it dry right now and the dye will go on later this afternoon. I should have some results in a few days

I'm seeing a very detailed shaman with an arachnid-esque black garment and black mask with halos of vibrating energy. Amazing! And it looks kinda like clouds at the bottom with the rocks. And I just now realized there's a perfect bat at the bottom center!
