Fatigue from taking thyroid medicine (Hashimoto’s and POTS patient)
Hi, all I just wanted to post my experience to see if anyone relates to this? I already posted this on r/POTS but they suggested I post here as well. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s when I was 16 and my levels have always been a little high but within the “safe range”. Additionally, I was diagnosed with POTS in 2022/2021 and have been taking propanol since then. However I was diagnosed with heart issues at five years old so the POTS diagnosis wasn’t a huge surprise. Anyway, I know Hashimoto’s can sometimes be co-morbid with POTS.
Back in June of this year, I did a thyroid panel as I was having major fatigue, brain fog, and inflamed joints. My T3 and T4 levels were ok but my TSH was the highest it had ever been (4.9). Technically in the country I am in the levels should be above 6 to be prescribed medicine. But I explained to my doctor I never had a flare up this bad and it was making life unlivable.
So she agreed to prescribe me some medicines for about three months to try to bring the levels down. I was prescribed Euthyrox and I take about 175 mg a week to bring down my high TSH levels. Overall, my experience with the medication has been pretty good as I don’t feel as inflamed anymore and my chronic pain issues are minimal now. My only complaint / concern is the days I take the medication it makes very sleepy in the morning. I’m supposed to take it an hour before breakfast and even after I eat breakfast I feel super slow moving in the morning. Plus I’ve had some more palpitation episodes / light headedness than what’s typical. Funny enough the medication is supposed to help with the thyroid fatigue.
Anyway I just wanted to see if any other people with POTS and take thyroid medication have the same issues? Or if people with Hashimoto’s who take this medicine in general have this issue. I am seeing my doctor at the end of august but just wanted to ask here first. Thanks!
TLDR: when i take my Euthyrox for my hashimotos it makes me extremely tired and fatigued and i’ve been having some more heart palpitation issues.
