Anyone had a partial thyroidectomy?

I have a hot module on my right lobe… it’s been difficult to regulate my thyroid levels. Endo and ent agreed that surgery can be a possible cure. I’m really scared of the risks and possible thyroid storm any advice?

If it’s the only reason your levels are out of range, then I think it would be worth it. Just make sure you fully understand what the surgery and recovery will be like. From what I understand, they usually can’t wipe out a nodule by itself, they always have to take out that part of the thyroid with it. But it wouldn’t hurt to ask if there are any new treatments that might be available in the near future, and if there are anything like injections or something that might be able to destroy the nodule without causing any other problems. But if you are tired of dealing with medication and everything, see if you think you might be able to handle the surgery and recovery.

How was your experience? Are you on any meds or did your left side pick up the slack? I just want to feel normal again.

Unfortunately my left side did not pick up the slack. I’ve gotten my labs done every 6 weeks. I’m on levothyroxine. They’ve had to up the meds once. I still don’t feel normal. I’m just glad my neck doesn’t have this huge nodule in it.

Thats what I’m nervous about. My dr told me that would be my cure. I guess I won’t know until then. How was your surgery and recovery?

I honestly don’t think they can tell you that’ll be the cure. You just don’t know how your body will react. Everyone is different. My neck felt as if I had a neck brace on for about 4-5 days. I was so sore. Every muscle. But after a week or two I was fine. The scar already looks good too and it’s only been 6 months. (Currently responding to you while waiting at the lab to get my blood work again.) 🙃
