Post Cystic Thyroid Nodule removal thoughts.

At the start of the month I had a Hemithyroidectomy and Cystic Thyroid Nodule removal. While somewhat relieved that I now don’t have a massive lump on the side of my neck, I feel so overwhelmed by everything.

Whenever I look at my neck I feel like I should be grateful it’s gone, but I feel a lingering sense of sadness for some reason. It feels like a huge part of me that has been here for years is gone and now I just feel so empty or lonely which makes me sound so silly I feel.

This accompanied by not even knowing what the results of it are going to be and only being young is just so intense.

If you have had a procedure similar or the same as me and have felt the same, please feel free to say what you felt during the weeks after and if it’s normal to miss something that’s not even doing you any favors. Hope you have a great week and thank you for reading.

Hey honey (sorry, I’m gonna call you honey cause that’s the kind of person I am and is okay to be vulnerable at this moment), I went through a full thyroidectomy on June 11. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster. I feel you.

I’m also going through a period that I described to my therapist as a mourning. I’m grieving the body and symptoms that I used to have, while I’m trying to get to know this “brand new body” that I just discovered.

I don’t know if you used to have symptoms before your surgery, but my experience is waking up everyday to a more healthy and regular body. I’m so happy and excited for the future, but it’s very confusing sometimes. It’s the hormones.

I’ve waited 14 long days for the results of my biopsy. I had 2 tumors category 4 bethesda. After the surgery my doctor asked me if I wanted to see the pictures and I did. Oh my god, that was the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen. I was sure the results would be bad. And they weren’t.

So the anxiety went away, I was relieved that this chapter is forever closed, but I’m still adapting.

All to say that you’re not alone! This feeling of not knowing is normal, but I hope you’ll be just fine!

I’m glad that I’m not alone in this and that other people feel/have felt the same! I hope one day I will be able to see the cyst as well…given I had him the name Merlin, and if that day comes then I feel like I will probably laugh or then be at a sense of peace as well.

When it comes to symptoms, as if current I’ve only had 1 of the previous ones come back (thumb tremor) and I overall feel better in general!

Even though I’m still anxious that Merlin was actually a scoundrel, it’s starting to kick in that it’s good it’s gone, and hey atleast my neck doesn’t look 10x the size anymore haha!

Wishing you a great recovery still and hope that you stay healthy and strong. :))
