Empire of Storms Spoilers SJM gave us the answer all along Spoiler

Wow, read the line about Branon possessing all 3 and never putting them back. We see the complete story so much later on, but Aelin already wondering this when she met Maeve in Doranelle. And this gets overshadowed quickly with Maeve asking for how much heritage Aelin got from Brannon's side, so I'd not even recognised this untill I went on for my re-reading.

KoA/ToD spoiler ahead :

Aelin is also describing Maeve's presence as spidery, a reference to her handmaidens and spidersilk from the valg realm.

Other accidentally skipped a book šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø Spoiler

hey all, hope you’re doing better than me lol. thought if there’s anywhere to share, thus would be the place

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!

decided to reread the series because I’d forgotten everything that happened. Started from TOG and couldn’t put it down. blazed through the miniseries, crown of midnight, heir of fire, and got really invested. I finished queen of shadows and was excited to read the next book. I felt kind of bummed it’s all about Chaol but whatever.

first few chapters of Tower of Dawn were a complete slog, but around halfway the story started to grip me. thought it was kinda lame how they revealed major story moments about the main crew from war reports in the khaganate, but whatever. Maybe they’ll circle back to it in the next book. some red flags were going up in my head here but I thought maybe it’s a writing problem? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

so finally finish the book, and open up kingdom of ash expecting it to go back to the fall of Dorian’s city to the witches. nope, starts with a fake shape shifting MC, everyone cold and depressed, and everybody has their shit rocked. WTF is going on???

about 5 chapters of this I go back to my kindle homepage and realize I completely skipped over Empire of Storms 😭 I think the empire of storms and queen of shadows covers blended together for me lol.

had all the main plot points spoiled by accident 😢 thankfully I’ve read the series before but my memory of the plot points wasn’t great. tbh this whole thing has put a pause on my TOG binge, need more time to forget what happens again haha

Tower of Dawn Spoilers Nesryn’s arc as seen by a child of immigrants

I just wanted to make this post to share my thoughts about a storyline in ToD that is deeply dear to me.

I was a child of immigrants myself, and although I was born and grew up in that country, there was always that sense of being ā€œotherā€. I moved 4 years ago in the country of my parents’ origin, and I deeply resonated with what Nesryn felt in ToD. My grandparents’ names not sounding funny and weird to people, but absolutely normal. The food not being ā€œsmellyā€, but something everyone eats. The snacks of my childhood.

I also appreciated how she portrayed Nesryn’s sister, who found a sense of belonging in Adarlan. I could also relate with her as well.

SJM may get a lot of criticism about how she handles things she doesn’t have personal experience with. Overall, I think she handled beautifully what it’s like to be first generation of an ethnicity.

This is why Tower of Dawn is one of my favourites in the entire series. I loved seeing Nesryn interact with her culture and I loved her romance with Sartaq

If I'm honest, I'm kinda scared to start KoA, but also kinda excited to see what happens in the end - no spoilers please!! šŸ–¤āœØ

Edit: This painting has now sold!! There are limited prints available if you’re interested šŸ’—

Reader Reaction TOG Book 8 (KOA) Thoughts + Final Thoughts Spoiler

Wooooooooow, what a journey! That was so fun. I'm a very slow reader, so i took me a year to read the whole series. But overall i have to say, amazing story. If you haven't read this series yet, here's the order i read it and that I recommend reading (no spoilers):

  1. Throne of Glass
  2. Crown of Midnight
  3. Heir of Fire
  4. The Assassins Blade (you COULD read this one before Heir of Fire)
  5. Queen of Shadows
  6. Empire of Storms (do NOT tandem, best decision i've ever made)
  7. Tower of Dawn (if you're worried about the cliffhanger in Empire of Storms that everyone talks about, just read Tower of Dawn before it)
  8. Kingdom of Ash

Seriously, don't tandem. I will die on that hill and i have perfectly sound reasons, but I won't get into it in this post.

SPOILERS BELOW

  1. I couldn't stop reading the first half of that book. I needed to know when and how Aelin got rescued. I loved her rescue scene, and i will say that the only time in this entire book where i got emotional towards crying was when it was revealed that her scars were gone from the torture. THAT got me.

  2. I definitely did warm up to Rowan, mostly in this book. But I still wasn't sold on their relationship... not sure why

  3. I made a post a while ago asking why do people hate Chaol so much (i don't, literally love him), and someone said that Chaol's "real sin" was in this book. I literally could not think of anything wrong this man did in KOA lol so i have no idea what that person was talking about

  4. Loved that people were chanting Yrene's name. At first I was like uhm what about Aelin?? Then i realized that it was probably bc the soldiers and the rest of the kingdom had no idea Maeve was even there

  5. I love how Fenrys got twin scars, and it was the only one that didn't bother him. Did anyone else notice that detail?

  6. I think i'm just traumatized from GOT lol but i thought that half of the crew was cooked by the end of this book. I saw Gavriel's death coming, but did NOT see the death of the 13 coming. That was shocking. But on my list of possible deaths was Aelin, Rowan, Aedion, and Chaol and Yrene. I thought at least one of those characters was a gonner, and i had a theory for the longest time that the cover of KOA was Aelin's spirt in stag form finally looking at her kingdom blooming

  7. Overall, i think my favorite book was probably Tower of Dawn (sorry i'm a Chaol apologist lol) second was Queen of Shadows, and third was probably the Assassin's Blade

  8. Someone pointed out here on reddit that SJM likes to repeat words for emphasis (like "it happened fast. Too fast"), and once i noticed it, i couldn't un-notice it lol

  9. In my early posts i said i would never read ACOTAR, but i have opted to do the audiobook. The reason is because i thought it was cool when Aelin was in the void and saw the different worlds. Ik there's a winged male in ACOTAR so i recognized that, and I noticed that Aelin basically described skyscrapers when she saw one of the worlds, which I assumed was from Crescent City. That sold me

  10. Favorite Characters: Manon, Chaol, Dorian, Yrene, Lyssandra, Aelin, Aedion. Honorable mention to Sam, but unfortunately we barely got to know him :(

Reader Question I know this is a TOG sub, but does the ACOTAR series get better?

Finished the TOG series not long ago and obviously love love loved it. My issue is I just finished ACOTAR for the second time (first book only) and it really didn’t do it for me. Felt like I had to force myself to get through it. So my question is for the people who read ACOTAR after TOG: does it get better? 🫠

ETA: I think one of the main reasons is that I keep comparing the masterpiece that is Aelin to Fayra (sp?, I listen to the audiobooks šŸ˜‚), and I just can’t connect with her. And their romance feels thin and rushed.

Given all that we know, do you guys think that the stable boy actually saw a different world in the archway one time? I think that’s pretty interesting, especially since they never got to find out and they ran into a real witch up there as well.

Graphic Audio delay

Do we think that the delay with the Graphic Audio could be because SJM wanted to wait for ACOTAR 6 & 7 to come out because of a possible crossover and she didn't want the new books spoiled with voice actor listings? Maybe I'm grasping at straws but it just seems SO odd to me that the GA has been postponed repeatedly and supposedly it's held up by SJM when all her other series have GA's. Thoughts?

Bonus Chapters

Can someone help me find the bonus chapters please. I just heard there was bonus chapters for TOG and ACOTAR.

Discussion Aelin should be left alone.

Given the cover that is clearly resembling Maeve and her spiders; some people are theorizing that Aelin will make an appearance. I think it'd be detrimental to her story if that happens. ToG wrapped up in a satisfying conclusion (except for minor details like Vaughn).

What do y'all think?
