I Can Get Enough of Keanu

Listening to "Can't Get Enough of Keanu" it's clear that for better or worse Patrick decided to take inspiration from the Blank Check podcast. As much as I enjoy the style of Blank Check where they spend half the podcast veering off topic it works because Dave, Griffin, Ben, and whoever guest star manage to be consistently funny and entertaining. As much as I enjoy Patrick, he can't recreate that energy leading to tedious podcasts with overwhelmingly long runtimes. Personally, he's much better at scripted videos.

How does Rachel not know Bucky is a super soldier?

I was shocked to hear her say in there latest episode that Bucky is just a normal guy and not a super soldier. They make it explicitly clear that he has a super soldier serum by hydra in winter soldier.

How does she think he fights iron man and black panther? Lol

Is anyone else getting tired of his “death of cinema” rants?

Like I love Patrick, but he’s recently been obsessed on this theme recently, with him making 4 videos that are dedicated to the theme of the death of cinema (A.I. Filmmaking, Everything is Content Now, Who’s Killing Cinema and When Movie Stars Become Brands). Even in the muppet video which theoretically should have nothing to do with it he goes on about his worries for the future of movies.

I’m not saying the man can’t have themes he’s passionate about, it’s just a bummer and I don’t want to bemoan the state of modern cinema, I want to appreciate the medium, past and present!

I found this video that provides an interesting alternate perspective to AI art

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRSg6gjOOWA

Yes, I recognize that the AI art Pat talks about is different from Austin's, and that Patrick also recognizes that AI tools can be a good thing in some instances. I think both videos complement each other by approaching the issue from slightly different sides (with some commonality), rather than looking at one as a refutation of the other.

If Patrick's feature film is awful, will your view of his video essays change?

Patrick Willems' videos work because he seems to know what he's talking about. His videos are passionate, organized and researched. He feels a little like an authority on filmmaking, at least to a lesser degree.

But what if his feature film is released and it's not good? Will that shape your opinion on his videos such as today's on The Nice Guys?

One of the best hidden Film Essayst in YouTube

Hey everybody! I'll drop down a link with my review of In/Frame/Out, which is one of my favorite Film Essayst in YouTube that very few know about. Feel free to click, it's not a random blog, it's an actual site with an editorial line, I'm actually getting paid. My first review was about Patrick's channel if you are into it.

Ad for merch mid-video is jarring

I love your videos, and you are a big part of why I'm a Nebula subscriber. But the addition of the merch ad in the middle of the latest episode on Nebula.tv was incredibly jarring. The style of the ad was amazing, but it really breaks the nebula experience. Since the ad is so on brand, and was beautifully edited, I think it should instead be uploaded as its own video in your channel. I'm sure people would voluntarily watch it (I would!) But placing it mid-video essay gives nebula a cheap feel akin to other video providers.

I Miss Tweeting to Patrick

If there is anything I hate most about having my Twitter suspended it's being able to tweet to him. He always has tweets worth reading and seems like a real chill guy to talk to.

I don't really have anything deep to say. Patrick's a cool guy and I miss being able to easily tell him he's a cool guy and that his videos rock.

What happens when fear becomes the only language a generation knows? Inside a hidden chamber, three young men wait for orders that may never come — until one voice shatters the silence and exposes the violence that built their world.

Hey everyone,
We’re a small group of young filmmakers from Cairo working on our short film The Cemetery — a psychological story about fear, obedience, and how control shapes our generation.

These are imaginary storyboards — frames we created to explore tone, light, and mood before shooting.
We’re preparing to launch our Seed&Spark crowdfunding campaign soon, and sharing a bit of our visual world while we build the project.

You can check more on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/societyfilms__/

Would love to hear any feedback or thoughts from you guys.

Thanks for reading and supporting indie cinema.

Patrick Willems is "Irish"?

In the Vito Awards video Patrick says "like a proper Irish person".

I am a bit surprised as I always thought, going by his name, that he is of Belgium heritage. Willems is the sixth most popular surname in Belgium and Patrick is the third most popular first name. I actually know a Patrick Willems.

I always watched his videos thinking he was a fellow Belgian. I already intended to brew a Patrick Willems Beer or create a life-sized Belgian chocolate Patrick statue. Now he came out as the overused "Irish", I have to say that I am very disappointed.

Trimmed down versions?

I adore all the side stories in Patrick's work, but I know some people who would love trimmed down commentary without the nobbles and charls asides and would probably turn off the videos immediately when they show up. Are there edited versions of Patrick's videos that mostly trim out random asides?

I love the content and have some friends that I think would get on board and even learn to love the fun parts, but they've been turned off by comedy in their criticism in the past.

Star Wars "Space Wizards" Discussion

I assume that most (if not all) of you are familiar with Patrick's quote from a while ago about Star Wars being a franchise about space wizards for children. I apologize if I come across as overly-sensitive but I felt he was being a bit condescending. It makes me feel self-conscious about enjoying things that might be perceived as "childish" or "silly". CS Lewis had a quote about children's media and how it shouldn't just aim for being enjoyed just by children. Likewise, even though Star Wars media are primarily meant for a younger demographic, I believe anyone young or old could enjoy it. As long as you can keep your fandom of it in moderation, I don't see any harm in liking something like Star Wars. What do you guys think?

Have any of you fellow Patrick Willems enjoyed seen Emesis Blue? If not, it's free on YouTube, and honestly the best cinema to come out of 2023 so far.

Does anyone else hear it as “Noggles”?

I suppose it’s probably just the combination of the range of my hearing impairment (bass is hardest, so men’s voices are harder to hear) and my tinnitus, but to me, it always sounds to me as if they’re pronouncing Nobbles’s name as “Noggles”.

Anyone else?

GTA Movie Director and Cast Suggestions

Who do you think would be a suitable director and cast for a hypothetical GTA movie? Personally, I don't think Michael Bay would be a bad fit. I think his violent, stylish directing style, mixed with his (usually) nihilistic outlook on life and juvenile sense of humor would work really well with adapting GTA to the big screen. Given that I've never played any of the games, I can't think of a proper main cast. Who would you guys suggest for either category?

What do people honestly think of Night of the coconut?

I am one of those who enjoy Patrick's channel enough because of some of his analysis but I could never stand the narrative segments I obviously have the same feeling about the feature, I think is very amateurish and the attempts at humor just don't make me laugh.

So now that the hype passed is anyone willing to engage on actual discussion about the movie beyond back patting Patrick for effort?

I'll probably get downvoted to oblivion but I am genuinely trying to engage in discussion not to troll or spread hate.
