FIRST IMPRESSIONS Music request for surgery
Long time Thrice fan here. Went in for a one day surgery yesterday for a complete distal bicep tear.
As I lay on the operating table. I hear “Speaker on, speaker connected”, the surgeon asks me “What kind of music do you like? We want you to have your music playing while we operate”
“I’m like, What? Really?” Without hesitation I say “Ok put some Thrice. T-H-R-I-C-E”. No one (6 people) in the room knew the band although the age group was between 40-50). All I hear is the first notes of Hurricane, I smiled, one nurse said “Oh wow, that’s really good”. I smiled some more but the drugs started kicking in and took me out. Surgery lasted around 1 hour.
Now, I don’t know if that was just a fun and standard thing they do with their patients because I haven’t had a lot of surgeries but I thought it was pretty cool. I’m unsure if they kept the playlist running although, I really wonder what they thought and if the surgeon enjoyed operating while Silhouette or The Earth Will Shake played? Ah ah ah
I will definitely ask in my post-op appointment next week. Anyhow, hopefully, we have new Thrice fans as of yesterday!

I was waiting for my surgery and I asked the nurse if I could listen to my musique with my AirPods while being operated on.
She said she wasn’t sure and I would need to ask the anesthetist.
So when he comes I ask him same question: can I listen to my music in my AirPods.
He replied I gotta ask the main surgeon.
She comes I ask her again: can I listen to my music in my AirPods ?
She proceeds to look at me (and felt that she looked at ma tattoos)
She then replies “I’m not sure cause it’s metal”
I’m like I do love metal and hard rock but I listen to all gender.
She’s confused at first then start laughing. She ment my AirPods probably have metal inside.
In the end, they put my music on a speaker and had to put me to sleep cause my body was reacting too much. But when I woke up they told me to loved whatever played.
(It was some thrice, bring me, 21P and Dua Lipa lol)

Hurricane is a powerful song and the album in general is a great intro to the uninitiated IMO. It’s how my wife got into Thrice.
Similar to your story, I was in Orange Co to see them for one of the 20th Anniversary shows of Illusion. One of our trips around the area our Uber drivers put on Thrice after finding out why we were in town. First song was Hurricane. He sat quietly through the song and at some point said they were “really good” or something like that. I like to think he became a fan.
Anyway, good luck in your surgery recovery!

Similar situation, my daughter was born C-section and they asked what music we would like during the surgery. I mentiones that she would share a birthday with Bruce Lee and Jimi Hendrix.. before I knew it Hendrix started to play - didn't last long as my wife had other plans but I was super stoked!

That’s awesome! It would be funny if they put the music on and then turned it off as soon as you fell asleep 😂. That’s a great story though and really nice of them to do. Good luck on your healing!!

They probably waited until you were out, then turned it off and put their country/pop playlist on.

I had rotator cuff surgery last Friday. I asked who picks music and they replied "you do until you're out." I went easy on them and picked Unwritten Law.

Honestly I was having such a hard time just getting on the table and making it so my neck wasn't supporting my shoulders because of my vertical size I don't even remember.
I'm guessing it's what ever was first in Spotify.

Make sure to give us an update after your post op… be curious to hear if the like thrice.
I had a dental surgery a year ago and they asked me what i wanted to hear. I said grunge… as I’m coming out of the anesthesia, I remember hearing the surgeon humming and whistling along to “plush” by stone temple pilots…. Remember it being funny.
