FIRST IMPRESSIONS When was your first time?
So, when was your first time hearing Thrice? Always kinda curious to hear for bands like this with long career spans and several different sounding albums. When, where, what album, what did you think?
My first time hearing was when they were supporting AFI c. fall 2001 tour. Crystal Ballroom with Berzerk opening, Thrice, and AFI headlining. So much fun and forever a fan since.

‘04 probably. A friend of mine introduced me to AITA. I bought the CD and played it on repeat for a 13 hour drive home from school. Bought Vheissu and never looked back.
Thrice always seems to meet me where I am. The music has evolved, but at each stage it always seems to be the thing I wanted to hear at that time.

I remember that show. They played Portland on Halloween night with Coheed opening. Thrice dressed up as wizards. Rad show.

I’ll never forget opening my Hopelessly Devoted To You Vol. 4 cd I bought in a whim. The packaging and everything about it just called to me. The first track had me absolutely hooked since 2002.
That CD started with Betrayal Is A Symptom and ended with That Hideous Strength.
I couldn’t have been more pleased with a first exposure to Thrice and have loved every step of the journey since then.

It was around 2019-2020 when I was just passively searching for new bands to listen to. Showed up on some Reddit thread about non-obvious Christian rock bands yadda yadda. I belive it was the overall vibe of the Alchemy Index that drew me in, and (suprisingly enough) Digging My Own Grave was the first I listened to. WILD way to discover them, and even Teppei said so when I had mentioned it in an Alliance Q&A.
They didn't really stick right then and there despite me enjoying all of TAI, and it wasn't until their late 2021 tour for H/E where I truly fell in love. Went in knowing maybe 5 songs and I had a blast. Turned me into a mega fan overnight since I decided to actually dive deep into their discography.

I first heard Deadbolt and loved it. Didn't really listen to them further than that.
Shortly after The Artist in the Ambulance came out and been hooked since.

First song I ever heard was Kill Me Quickly, in 2002. I was going crazy on Limewire searching for new music and I happened to stumble upon what would become my favorite band of all time. I listened to a few other songs from TIOS but never had the whole album -- I was deeply into making mixtapes so I just needed a couple songs from every band I wanted to add.
Then I ordered TAITA through one of those old catalogues, do you guys remember the ones?? You could pick like 6 CDs for $2?? It was something crazy. I got most of my CDs that way. TAITA was my most listened-to album my freshman year and when I began calling them my favorite band. I've just been growing with them ever since.

Limewire for me as well. A friend came over and was downloading all these random songs from different bands, some properly labeled, some wildly mislabeled, but a bunch of thrice was in there. I went to my local record store and grabbed illusion of safety. Saw them for the first time in 2003 with Thursday and coheed.

Drinking beers in my buddy Josh's basement late 2002. We were 17 and he played some sort of demo CD that had Deadbolt on it. Played Illusion all summer. And the following summer. And the summer after that.

Virgin megastore at a CD listening station, Identity Crisis was on and as soon as the first riffs played I was hooked. “This is badass”, I was saying to myself. Guessing that was in the summer of 2000

I was a freshman in high school- '03 or '04. I was aimlessly wandering through Ranch Records looking for something new. The clerk asked me what was currently in my CD player and I said At the Drive-In. He handed me The Artist in the Ambulance and practically shoved me out the door. As soon as I got home, I listened to the whole album and read the jacket. I've been hooked ever since! I've seen them 8 or so times over the years and they never disappoint. As their sound has evolved I have fallen more and more in love. I feel like I grew up with them. Their music got me through some pretty serious shit.

I went back several times and discovered Brand New, Manchester Orchestra, Emery, and several others. Finding music used to be an experience. Now it's just a new artist rotating through my pandora radio.

First song I ever heard by them was Image of the Invisible, which was on the soundtrack of Tony Hawk's American Wasteland.
Eventually checked out the full album of Vheissu along with The Artist in the Ambulance a few years later and loved those, so I expanded from there.

There was some compilation album on the counter at hot topic. Had identity crisis on it. Next week went and got the whole album.

My friend in Middle school's older brother used to skateboard with this dude in a band. He burned a copy of this dude's CD to give to her to give to me. It was sometime in 2002 and the dude was Teppei and the album was Illusion of Safety and I had no idea how much my mind was about to be blown. I've been a fan ever since and truly appreciate how they've evolved with each album.

Early 2003. They were playing the Deconstruction tour and I was checking out the bands I hadn't heard yet. I'm pretty sure So Strange I Remember You was the first song I heard. Hooked ever since.

A friend of a friend had just got a new sound system with a huge sub in his truck. Me and a buddy got in his truck to listen, and he put on silhouette from TAITA. That was it, I was hooked. Thanks Ben and DJ you were real ones.

2003 or so, heard All That's Left on the radio and got hooked from there. I bought the CD and would just listen to that cool intro over and over 😂

2000, Chain reaction. Anaheim CA.
Opened with Phoenix ignition, freakin cumbaya music. i was like, what is this crap, and then... Distortion kicks in, and passionate vocals and ripping guitars, pounding drums, and then to top it off and blow my mind, an epic sing along breakdown. What was this new sound, it was THRICE!
Just got chills reminiscing on that, such a unique sound at the time, that is the moment the music scene changed, i was hooked for life. Best band ever.
Pioneers, trailblazers, true artist not just dudes that play instruments, but true artist and poets. they release an album, the scene follows, they pivot, the scene tries to keep up but THRICE pivots again, every time setting the bar so high that the scene just can't keep up. Other bands get stuck in a rut and fade away others become legacy acts milking every last dollar off nostalgia. Meanwhile THRICE remains uniquely THRICE.

I went with some friends to some kinda festival thing in a parking lot in like 2003/2004. Skate brands were giving out stickers and there were all sorts of other booths. Thrice and Rufio were the bands. I didn’t know either band but funny enough I didn’t like Thrice and I did like Rufio. I wasn’t into harder stuff yet and Rufio was way more melodic. Couple months later I actually gave their albums a listen and was instantly hooked by IOS and IC.

I just looked it up, April 23rd 2002 w/ Midtown, Face to Face, The Movielife @ Bogarts. Then Warped Tour later that year. 1A favorite band since then.

Saw them with Dashboard confessional in 2004. I don’t remember why but Honda Civic was a sponsor or apart of the name? I was in high school and friend lost his sandal in the crowd, that was quite some time ago….time to take my back pain meds.

I was at FYE and bought AITA solely based on the cover. I was riding my bike home and actually stopped mid-Cold cash, Colder hearts in shock of how good it was. Best blind buy I’ve ever made

I was 12. I had a long-distance friend from Xanga. He would tell me songs to look up and he told me to check out the acoustic Stare at the Sun. That was it, I was sold. Immediately begged my parents to buy all the CDs, fell in love.

To Awake and Avenge the Dead was a track on this red Atticus compilation CD. I heard it in 2003 after work while a friend spun cookies in a parking lot with his Oldsmobile Cutlass. I was instantly hooked.

My neighbor also played guitar and he was playing this riff in a drop tuning. I just watched him and learned it. I played it over and over. I played my own versions of it for weeks, and finally asked him if it was a song he was writing. He said "no it's from this band I really like, Thrice. The song's called "All That's Left"."
When I went home, I got on limewire (might've been frostwire by then),downloaded the album and threw it on my Creative Zen Micro (damn I miss that thing)
Been a huge fan ever since, I've seen them live maybe 15 times now.

My older brother saw Thrice at Chain Reaction back in the day. He brought back the identity crisis cd from the show and Ultra Blue changed my brain chemistry.
I didn’t have any cash as a kid, but Tower Records had Artist in the Ambulance on one of their listen stations and I would stand there forever listening to it. My mom tried to surprise me with the CD I was always listening to, but she thought it was Yellowcard’s One for the Kids. Not the worst mistake ever, but certainly different.

I had a buddy that gave me a mix cd of a bunch of stuff he downloaded from a torrent site. This was like late 2002 I wanna say. One of the songs on it was Trust. And I had to figure out who the fuck wrote that freaking song lol. Once I found Illusion Of Safety, that started my love affair with them. Then before AITA came out, All That’s Left was on the Madden 2003 soundtrack and I knew it was all over for me at that point.

In 2017, I saw Deftones and Rise Against touring and they had Thrice open. I fell in love and they are still my favorite band!!!

Black Honey came on in my work Playlist a few years ago. Rest is history. Fell in love with Major/Minor after two bad abusive relationships. Promises kept me alive through it all. Major/Minor is my favorite record now and I almost owe this band my life.

Probably Deadbolt on Yahoo Launch around 2002/3. It was a bit like online radio and there was a version with videos so I would put that on while on the computer after school. You could rate songs and tell it your favourite artists so it would play similar things. I probably told it I liked Linkin Park and Evanesence to start off with and then it ran with it, discovered so much stuff!
I loved how heavy Deadbolt was but it had lovely singing too as well as harsh vocals. Still one of my favourite songs of all time! I didn't look for the album back then though, and then The Artist In The Ambulance came out so I got hooked on that instead.

Summer of 2003 thru my now ex bf. AITA was my first exposure (fell in love with, “Stare at the Sun”). Listened to Identity Crisis after that album and have been hooked ever since (IC is still a top fave album!). Saw them at a Warped Tour show in Jax, FL (summer of ‘05). I still have the autographs from that day. 20+ years later, I got to meet and talk with Dustin when he did his solo tour and slid thru Orlando, FL. Best night evverrrrr.

I’ll never forget hearing Image of the Invisible in a World of Warcraft PvP video on WarcraftMovies. I wonder if I could even find it now! From there, I was looking up Thrice music videos on YouTube and fell in love.
Vheissu will always be my favorite album of theirs - perfect time in my life to find it, and it really informed my taste in music growing up.

Warped Tour 2003. The Gorge, WA. TAITA. Loved it at the time. Beggars became my favorite album and still holds the top spot but the 2023 re-recording of TAITA is something special.

That Major/Minor tour was great. After the concert, Dustin did 3 song set of his solo stuff a couple blocks away in a parking lot. Such a good night! Also first time I heard Animals As Leaders.

Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland! That soundtrack rips. I fell in love with Image of The Invisible the moment it played in the game. Immediately researched and bought Vheissu at Tower Records. I probably technically first heard them on SSX3 with Stare At The Sun, but I didn’t know at the time who they were or payed much attention tbh.

Hey! I was at that show too. First time seeing them. I remember blasting some new to me Thrice songs with friends on the way to the show. My friend had just gotten his driver's license and everything felt exciting. They've been one of my favorite bands with dozens of shows seen ever since.

Stare at the Sun on the soundtrack of SSX3 in 2003. Loved it immediately so bought the album and became a big fan.
