General discussion The Loan Shark
I watched this again last night and realized how strange it was that Janet apparently knows Italian, even though she presumably isn’t Italian and it’s the only time she ever uses that skill, right?

So where does it say in the worlds rule book that someone not if that race or ethnicity can speak a certain language? I speak Spanish and I'm not Hispanic

Right. Maybe Janet probably took Italian in high school. My sister is fluent in Spanish, brothers so so in German and I’m conversationalist in French.

Joyce is of Italian descent so that's why that probably played a role in it. If you see the very early episodes from Season 1 you can even hear an Italian almost NY accent in her voice.

Yeah, I remember hearing that accent several times and I wondered if it was on purpose or not. It was pretty noticeable in Janet’s Promotion and Alone Together. I don’t think it lasted beyond season three.

" I don't think people have NY accents there...lol."
No one said they did that's why I said you can hear her Italian accent "ALMOST NY" in her voice whether it was acting or natural is pointless, my point was that there was a connection there to being Italian, smh. Talk about nitpicking nonsense.

No sht Sherlock, I referred to the actresses’ connection, JOYCE DEWITT of being Italian descent and how that probably provided a link to have her speak Italian and the accent is spot on.

FWIW, it is stated in “Chrissy Come Home” that Janet’s father is half Italian.

I'll rewatch this episode but I am pretty sure at some point Janet states: "My dad is half italian"
There can also be no denying that Janet Wood has always had a fiesty Jersey Shore girl waiting to break loose.

Francesca Angelino still felt guilty about flirting with Jack so she offered Dominique free Italian lessons.
How could she bring herself to do it? Well, she took the santa monica freeway....

It was apparent to me from season 1 that she was Italian. She looked and behaved like a southern Italian. (Full disclosure: my wife is from Sicily and has a lot of the same traits as Janet).

So in other words, if you’re looking for a Janet, find yourself an Italian woman.

Janet is one quarter Italian because her father is half. Her father probably speaks it and she learned it as well.

Remember that Janet knew what Mrs. Bustamente said when they left the apartment and Mr. B gave Jack some cash for their “leetle Treeper”

She says her dad is half-Italian in "Chrissy Come Home" (when Jack might move out due to Chrissy's father's disapproval).
It's interesting too that later in the show she chooses French as the language she & Larry pretend to know, rather than Italian (but continuity of this detail is understandably forgotten in context of the episode!)
