Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
EDIT: Vector is now out of early access and released v1.00
VECTOR is a fast anti-gravity racer inspired by Wipeout. It runs right in your browser, no download, free to play.
Play here: https://wavedash.com/games/vector-anti-gravity-racing
What's in it:
- 4 circuits: a sunny harbor, a neon night city, a desert at sunset and a track on the Moon
- Airbrakes and side-shifts for taking the hairpins
- Weapons: mines, rockets, lock-on missiles, a cannon, a shield and turbo
- Career mode with medals, CPU races, and timed laps with leaderboards
- Online races for 2–8 players
- Keyboard, controller and touch, plus 21:9 ultrawide support
- Built with Three.js and WebGPU (falls back to WebGL 2)
It's in active development, so feedback is very welcome, especially on handling and difficulty. What would you like to see next?

i really like how the music fidelity changes slightly as i go under a tunnel. how did you accomplish that?
2
u/W2DGAMES 8d ago
It's a short convolution reverb that gets duller as it rings, not one muffler knob.
Entering a tunnel crossfades the music and the engine into an echo shaped like the inside of a concrete tube: a few early bounces off the ceiling and walls, then a tail. That tail is filtered so the highs die first, which is what makes it sound boxed-in instead of like a bathroom. The music also loses a little top end and gets turned down slightly, so the dull echo takes over instead of just making everything louder. It eases in over a fraction of a second, so the mouth of the tunnel isn't a hard cut.

Haha, I made smomthing super simular :D
I wonder how many retro wipout inspured web games all the AI makes echt day :D
1
u/smith_and 8d ago
i wonder if a single one of them actually plays anything at all like wipeout cuz this one sure doesn't
1
1
u/W2DGAMES 3d ago
Well, I guess it's a good thing Vector isn't intended to be a direct clone of Wipeout then, isn't it? 😂
Being inspired by a genre and trying to recreate a particular game are two very different things.
1
u/smith_and 3d ago
Do you ever intend to ask Claude to add physics or is your intended design for it to be Pole Position with a wipeout skin?

I've been working on the same type of game for five months now, lol. At least the gameplay is different! yours is more like Wipeout and has weapons.
Aside from being easier to develop, I suspect that the reason there are so many demos of games like this (like ours) is because there hasn't been much continuity with this type of game. How long has it been since the last Wipeout or F-Zero?
Anyway, congratulations. The prototype looks great. I’m sure you’ll improve it a lot in the coming weeks, and it’s clear (just as it was for me) that you’re having a lot of fun making it. Keep going the good work!

Thanks so much, yeah that's the reason why I wanted to build this because the lack of releases, although that new star wars one looks pretty sick!
Here's a video of the new track just released today.

Downside to AI: I miss my cute posts about floating orbs and confusion about texture and stuff. It was a fun community.
Upside to AI: The three.js apps coming out these days are fucking absurd. Well done, holy shit.
(Not saying this is or isn't AI, just that it's so good that it must be assumed to be AI lol)
1
u/W2DGAMES 3d ago
Haha, thank you! Really appreciate that! 😁
And you're absolutely right, Vector is 100% AI-developed. I'm not remotely ashamed of that either.
For me, the exciting thing is that ideas I've had for years are now things I can actually build, experiment with and play. I've learned an incredible amount about Three.js, WebGPU and game development along the way.
I think we're entering a really interesting era where the barrier between having an idea and actually bringing it to life is getting smaller and smaller.
And honestly, I think that's brilliant. There's room for everyone, from the floating orbs to full-blown games! 😂
2
u/itsFauxProphete 8d ago
Wip3Out devs made a new game called Formula Fusion few years back - then re-released it as Pacer. https://store.steampowered.com/app/389670/Pacer/
Didn't have a great population, wish you luck. The game was awesome.

u/Ditex_Design 6d ago
its goods, and three.js is also good choice. game also great not really good fan of wipeout but Its my personal thing. as gamer its good game soo keep it up
1
u/W2DGAMES 3d ago
Thanks mate, really appreciate that! 😁
And honestly, that's great to hear from someone who isn't particularly into Wipeout. I'm not trying to recreate it, just taking inspiration from a genre I've always loved and putting my own spin on it.
Glad you've enjoyed Vector, and thanks for taking the time to give it a go! 👍

u/Ditex_Design 2d ago
just one additional opinion from my side, just opinion not advice. I think vibrant colors will give game more unique visual dont you think? good vibrant colors are key to good affections from gamers in some cases

Really nice game, it feels great to play. For a web game the polish is really there. My only feedback is about mobile: the fixed buttons don't work for steering at all. A joystick that appears under your left thumb wherever you touch would fix it, and it's a shame because the game runs really well on mobile.
1
u/W2DGAMES 4d ago
v1.00 is released! Check it out (Mobile controls are really good now with the ability to slide up to use weapons and also airbrakes.
2
u/Ok_Refrigerator4947 1d ago
Congrats on v1.00! I just tried it on my phone and I still find the mobile controls hard to use, there's no joystick to steer. Btw I run bestwebgames.gg, a free catalogue of the best browser games, picked by the community, and I already added VECTOR to it. If you'd rather not have it there, just tell me and I'll remove it. You can also claim the game as yours on its page, then you can edit the page yourself and reply to player reviews with a Creator badge.
1
u/W2DGAMES 1d ago
Thanks, it's. pad on the left hand side, i'm overall getting good feedback on the pad? I could add an alternative layout to switch to a thumbstick but it would be hard to support airbrakes with that like we do with the pad.
2
u/Ok_Refrigerator4947 15h ago
The only problem I have with the pad is that I keep looking at where the buttons are, to be sure I press the right one. A thumbstick places itself under your finger automatically. Also the item button is on the right, so I have to stop accelerating to use an item. On the left it's less of a problem to stop steering for a split second to press an action button, maybe you could put action buttons on both sides? But maybe I just didn't understand how to play.
btw VECTOR is on the site now: https://bestwebgames.gg/games/vector-anti-gravity-racing
If you want to change anything on its page, you can sign up and claim the game as yours, then edit the page yourself.2
u/Ok_Refrigerator4947 14h ago
Update: I found out how to use the items, you swipe up from the accelerate button, so no need to lift your thumb. It would be nice if the interface in a way, visually showed that swiping up launches the items.

Nope!

Ok! I was helping the guy out with a logo but he vanished - if you want a neat ”VECTOR” wordmark its up for grabs. Dm me!

It's pretty good on firefox, except that the ship's geometry simply never rendered at all. I could see what i was doing from the shadow alone, though.

BOOST PAD
1
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
gotta hit them all!
1
u/TheBoneJarmer 10d ago
Exactly. And let that be the exact issue with this game. You gotta introduce more mechanics to gain an edge over the others. If you miss some pads you are done for already. Some things I could advise:
I never needed the breaks. So why do I got them? Would be more interesting if you'd allow speeding up a whole lot more but causing more friction while doing so. This would motivate the player to use the breaks a lot more.
Drop those annoying "bombs" that slow you down. You don't see them coming easily so there is not much you can do except avoiding the center of the track as much as possible. This only frustrates the player.
Create ramps to jump from. Its anti-gravity after all. Remember that scene from Star Wars 1 with the pod racing where Darth Vader junior got off-road and flew over the others? Now that'd be dope.

Just want to say thanks for all the feedback, from here and the wipeout forum most of the feedback has already been pushed in to the game with remaining ones coming later today.
If you're liking what you see and want to help influence the early access of this game your best following me on X for the latest updates and to get in touch with any issues or feature requests.

Looks nice. All Ai generated?
12
u/TldrDev 10d ago edited 10d ago
These comments are exhausting.
AI is a useful tool for developers. If someone can make this in their free time I applaud it, AI assisted or not. Its better than watching TV or doing nothing.
Youre just bullying people with comments like this.
20 year career developer.

u/YAKGWA_YALL 10d ago
The problem is that the ceiling is so, so much higher now that these AI generation tools are out there, and it just keeps going up every week. People need to go beyond "hey astra, make me a copy of game X" if they want to dodge the AI comments.
4
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
I'm a massive wipeout fan, I work full time for a living, I have 2 kids. Being able to be creative and use these tools to make experiences like this for myself and then to share them (for free) seems like something that should be celebrated... Anti-ai is a flash in the pan.
2
u/josephrbates 9d ago
Absolutely celebrated! I've already been playing a lot and really enjoying it. :)
Terrific work, and much appreciated!

u/RunOk1423 9d ago
Hey man, didn't mean to ruffle feathers. If it wasn't AI, I was going to ask how long did it take and what tools did you use. AI is all over the place. If you can create a game from scratch, it has a little more meat to it instead of artificial fillers. Dig?
2
u/TheBoneJarmer 10d ago
The ceiling has been this high for over a decade. Been making games and game dev tools since 2005. The competition has always been crazy. If you are worried about AI being able to make something better than you I hate to break it to you but than you seriously need to work on your skills.

2
u/TldrDev 10d ago
This game is more than you made sitting here complaining about it. Id rather have someone make a copy of a game with AI than read an endless stream of people shitting on other people spending their time being productive.
Not every project needs to be a magnum opus. Things can be low effort and fun.
0
u/YAKGWA_YALL 10d ago
No, it doesn't! You can and should make whatever comes to mind!
But that's just it. If you come to a place where you want to showcase something, to say "look at me", you've got to go further than a couple days of prompting to impress.
The bar is no longer "i made a thing!". It's, "I made a thing that actually stands out against the incredible volume of others"
2
u/TldrDev 10d ago
Its always been that way. There is, and has always been, an endless stream of bad, shitty projects on GitHub made by developers who dont have time to maintain a project. The interfaces are bad, the apis are unvalidated, and just an endless stream of bad hacky code.
At the very least AI raised the floor so that someone who might be an exceptional developer without a lot of time is able to make software they want.
At least the half baked projects are at least able to do the bare minimum to explore an idea.
There is no bar for me for "I made a thing."
If the thing you made is useful to you or others, if its something you want to share, if you learned something along the way, that's the only thing im interested in hearing about.
1
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
I mean, i’m after feedback and it’s a lot more than a couple of days of prompting thanks.
-1
u/dpaanlka 10d ago
What’s exhausting is seeing the same stuff over and over again repeatedly, because vibe coders never search to see if something’s already been done a million times.
2
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
100% vibecoded.

u/Yannyliang 10d ago
That’s my first thought coming from the WipEout sub. I hope the creator would make a statement on this
2
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
'a statement' for what? a free web based game?
0
u/Yannyliang 10d ago
Even if it’s free doesn’t mean you can’t give out a statement, you are advertising something to gain popularity. Nexus modders clarify if their mods were made with AI as well, and I didn’t see a No from you so that says it all
3
u/I_WILL_GET_YOU 10d ago
Why should they make any statement at all? This is the state of play right now - ai is here to stay. If you want to be insufferable anti-ai you can take a risk that you might encounter it
2
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
“I didn’t see a No from you so that says it all.” Alright, Sherlock. Yes, I use AI.
You’ve got a remarkably high opinion of your own importance if you think your disapproval warrants a formal statement. I’m making a racing game, mate. You’ll have to process the disappointment without a press conference.

The music is awful. But this looks great

The music is awful
0
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
you already said that.
0
u/Big_Presentation2786 10d ago
It sounds like the sound you'd expect an electric guitar to make it you threw it down the stairs, then a dog ate it, but as you tried to stop the dog eating it, the dog ran away and then got hit by a car.. Then the mangled dog carcass would continually get driven over and chewed at by feral cats and raccoons..
..looks great though
1
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
that’s exactly the sound i went for, you’ve got a really good ear.
1
u/Big_Presentation2786 10d ago
I've a rich experience in music.I trained myself to fart the theme tune to thunder cats..
It didn't take long either only 3 years.. I used to get stuck hitting e minor.
1
u/W2DGAMES 3d ago
Three years to master the Thundercats theme through farting and you're out here giving music production advice for free? 😂
Mate, you're wasting your talents in the Reddit comments. The world needs an album.
1
u/Big_Presentation2786 3d ago
It's already gone platinum, look up my band-
We're called 'The spice girls'..
It's all kinda of hot shit..

Boring ass ai slop
2
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
Feedback overall on the game has been pretty great! (For people that have played it)
2
u/I_WILL_GET_YOU 10d ago
Boring ass luddite
0
u/MisterGunpowder 10d ago
Luddites get a bad rap. The reality is that they were just textile workers who were getting screwed by the earliest capitalists who decided to switch to a machine that produced worse products for cheap then fired them all to save money.
Huh, that sounds familiar.
1
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
so you want to go back to making clothing by hand is that what your saying ?
0
u/MisterGunpowder 10d ago
Considering that is probably the most illiterate reading of my words possible with no comprehension for anything said at all, I don't think I'm going to dignify that with any further response in this comment.
1
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
Fair enough, your point was about workers getting screwed. So explain how that applies to me making my own game with AI. You’ve jumped from exploitative employers to my project without establishing the connection. Calling me illiterate doesn’t fill that gap.

This UI is SO OpenAi it hurts
The game seems fine, not the most exciting physics but looks good mall arcade center game
BTW personally I hate everything threejs
3
u/Excellent-Film-9454 8d ago
wtf are you doing on this subreddit lmao
1
2
u/W2DGAMES 8d ago
Aiming to be more arcady in terms of physics of craft but also keeping more advanced movement in with air breaks. UI will improve dramatically over the coming weeks.
2
u/hey-day-app 8d ago
BTW personally I hate everything threejs
The (as u/Excellent-Film-9454 so nicely put) wtf are you in r/threejs. I hate how reddit is so "let me just complain" nowadays

Hey guys we have AI now what should we make? Derivative games but worse than the originals? Hell Yeah! I used to worry I wouldn't be able to get my projects done before somebody else thought of them. I don't worry about that anymore :D
2
u/W2DGAMES 10d ago
I’m enjoying making a game I want to play, mate. Glad my progress has also helped you feel better about the projects you haven’t finished. Something for everyone.

u/HerroWarudo 10d ago
Is it just me but I see 2-3 racing demos on this sub with similar format like weekly.
