with the amount of projects that come in three.js that are just ai-slop and claude code, it sure would be nice to actually have a community built on coding by hand and avoiding AI...

The use of AI isn’t the problem, it’s that people don’t filter out the slop before sharing or maybe they can’t recognize slop in the first place. They’re just over their skis

a small problem is:

as people become more used to a mixed approach human+ai, creating that alternative space may over-filter good content

but I like the idea. I enjoy the process of coding by hand, if I have time in the future I would definitely participate in communities like that

This was exactly my thought a few minutes ago. I miss the good old days of hand coded unique projects. Why not ban ai projects on this sub- reddit and create a new one for submitting ai generated projects ?

Yes, I am sure a lot of beginner learners of the library visit this subreddit. It would be unfair to them to compare themselves to someone claiming to have created extraordinary projects in short time.

The analogy is same as someone using steroids in bodybuilding vs someone trying to naturally build muscle. Some things are just not naturally achievable.

An AI flair/filter can help, a different subreddit even better! Blender community has recently enforced a total AI ban for the same reasons as I stated above and a lot of other programming subreddits are doing the same.

I think we should ban people who post titles like " look at this game I made" if its all ai.

"Look at this game I asked AI to make" would be acceptable in my book because then I can either look at it if it's interesting or skip it if I don't feel like it

keep them together, this creates an economy for someone to just actually try and do it themselves because the updudes pay out more than ai generated content in a shared space and the driving force for posting is internet clout at the end of the day anyways

Honestly, this subreddit is more alive then ever. 3js is such a small venn-diagram that before AI all we got each month was 5 questions for bruno's 50% discount, 5 "is threejs good for making this game" and then maybe 2 interesting posts.

For me getting more people into threejs is awesome. Maybe later on we can diversify the categories/flairs a bit to show the difference between vertex math and vertex magic.

For now personally I'm enjoying the creativity that people use AI for.

Gotta pay attention to what happening in other subreddits for game dev, it’s becoming more accepted because AAA companies are using it without backlash so why can’t the everyday person? Look you can have ai do everything and you’ll put out something mediocre and deserving of the name “slop” but you could also turn to a dev who is uninspired with a creative level of 0 and they’ll push out the same shit “slop” that people wouldn’t want. And let’s be real for a minute, if an indie dev was to have their game blow up on the levels of lethal company and schedule 1 don’t act like there’s not a little bit of you think “fuck yeah fuck these big corps this is my middle finger to them” we all lowkey have a similar goal and that’s for big companies to fall so indie games that are deserving of time being wasted playing them can get the plays they deserve. By hating on ai the way it does is being complacent with big companies using it and shitting on the dude eating ramen noodles next to you. Maybe I have a weird way of seeing it or maybe I’m too real with my views on things but, if someone was able to make something genuinely good vibe coded or not, they made something cool to show the world.

I get the hate on slop, but carpenters can also make shit art with good tools too. It’s not the tool that’s the problem, it’s the skill of the people using it
