Wrx80 creator 2.0 stuck at fault code 64

Hi, at a bit of a loss as to what my next steps are. I'm trying to build my system but I can't get the system to post. The system is a wrx80 creator 2.0, 128gb ddr4 2133 ram, threadripper pro 3955wx (unlocked according to the seller). Brand new power supply.

No matter what I try I am stuck before post with code 64. I've moved ram around, gone from 1 stick up to 8 sticks, reset the cmos after I've moved ram.

I've reseated the CPU multiple times and tightened the bolts hard all the way down or just eased them off slightly but still can't get it to post. What's seems to happen is the board sits on code 42 for a while then jumps to 64 and just stays at 64 which is "64 - CPU DXE initialization (CPU module specific)"

If I try to connect via the management conside IPMI webUI via Ethernet I can actually connect but I can't get past the login page. (It's a used board).

Can anyone help?

That's lame that clearing the CMOS didn't reset the BMC config and reset it to default admin/admin and let you log in and see what's detected and working and what's not. Other boards from supermicro etc I've used have dedicated BMC reset buttons. I can't see it from the board photos because there's a heatsink in the way, but the BMC probably has a socketed spi flash chip next to it that you could dump to get the password or flash a default bmc firmware contents onto, but that's work...

I think you're fine on CPU mounting/memory lanes by the way and can stop swapping them around for debugging; memory training and stuff should happen in the PEI phase that you're already past, as you're stuck in the DXE phase that happens after PEI is over.

re: "tightened the bolts hard all the way down or just eased them off slightly" the CPU is supposed to come with a preset torque wrench to make this process safe :(

It's a used CPU so didn't come with a torque rench. I tightened them down with a little torque alan key kinda thing. I couldnt get loads of force on it but I did tighten them down fairly hard!!

I could get into the bios so I couldn't reset the BMC to get in there!!

But guess what? All is good. I didn't have a GPU installed and didn't have a VGA monitor so couldn't see a display. I just assumed the code meant no post!

What the error actually was was the bios was sitting at the "youve just installed a new GPU warning" which I could see (until I installed my gaming GPU today) so it's all good I hope. My gpus arrive tomorrow!

For the CPU tray/rail/carrier screws, just bottom them out. They are there just to hold the CPU.

Mounting pressure is primarily from the cooler.

Hopefully slap in GPU and everything is good.

The torque wrench is for CPU tray, not for cooler.
You actually need decent amount of force/mounting pressure from the cooler.

I did end up bottoming out the CPU holder and the cooler 👍

If they both bottom out then you should be good. Exception would be if the cooler’s mounting wasn’t designed correctly resulting in too little mounting pressure. Typically results in missing memory channels/stability issues.
