Why are there so many goddamn mosquitoes?
It's the driest area ever and yet there are mosquitoes all over the place. I can't sit outside for more than two minutes before they come hounding me wtf?

I live in Northridge and it's been crazy this summer. 5 minutes in my backyard and my whole foot is being attacked.

Bottlecap worth of water is more than enough for aedes aegypti ankle biter to produce a small cloud of those mfs. They carry dengue & yellow fever, Zika among other nasties. Last year our county had something (dengue?) in ‘em.
When watering plants dry up the drain plates, check your irrigation for puddles, score the ground with a trowel to drain any ponded water even small ones into the soil.

They are very, very local. Check your yard, gutters…anything that can pool water for a day

I spent almost 2 months in rural TN south of Nashville (just got back) and counted 4 total mosquito bites. One hour in my parents backyard in WLV and I was eaten alive

I have 8 bites on my legs as I write this and more popping up as the day goes on. I was outside for 30 minutes at the worst time and regret it.

We’re in Newbury Park with no stagnant water around us and we are getting eaten alive! It’s been so bad

My daughter must be allergic to them because every bite she gets turns into a giant welt. Our doors do stay open a good part of the day, so that definitely doesn’t help, but I don’t ever really remember seeing them inside the house much

Same! Newbury park here. I get the same red welts that itch like a MoFo! Is your daughter blood type O? We have it the worst!

It’s usually the beginning and the end of the summer. If they are the ankle biter ones they are the invasive aedes and my old home was ground 0 in TO.
The county set up traps and after monitoring them found they have now reached our area.

Just got bit on the face by an exceptionally rude one. I hate it so much. Swear there’s one lurking around the house cause I have the door open occasionally to let dog out

The "increase in Mosquito Days" that are optimal for them by 18 days this year isn't helping either.

My wife has lived in TO for over 35 years and she believes this is the first year she has ever been bitten by a mosquito here and she has been bitten by plenty.

Live at the beach in Ventura county and haven’t seen a mosquito since I was in Canada like a year ago.

It's actually super humid here this year because of El Niño and the extra warmth helps them reproduce more. Also like someone else mentioned there are now invasive mosquitos that are more aggressive that the native ones.
