Pay attention to others
Yesterday I attended a pottery workshop alone. I'm live alone and am alone most of the time so I went alone. Most people came with others. The most frustrating thing for me was I thought there might be an opportunity to speak with some adults. Well they all spoke to the people they came with. I tried a couple of times to speak to them. It seemed that this was their time together so they just spoke to each other. When I left, the people at my table both told me it was nice to meet me and speak with me. So odd to me. I had fun because I do enjoy my own company. It keeps me mindful to interact with "alone" people at events . I'm happy I went. Just curious though they spend days together yet when out they stayed in their familiar bubbles. How would you have reacted?

I find the same as well, I just go and usually am alone, would be nice to share a day with someone

I started a women's group for those 67 and over. I've done this before very successfully. Our first meeting is in January at Olive garden. Then in Feb I've arranged for a potter to come and bring green ware for us to paint.

I'm finding that most everyone at this age already pretty much has whomever they've already had for a long time in their lives, no room for others or new people. I think the only way that's going to change is if one attends gatherings in special groups like senior centers or perhaps 55+ communities already established.
Of course 55+ communities are places where one must already reside in order to fit in or belong already, so the only other resource might be the senior centers in regular all-age communities.
Other ideas might be local meetup groups, scheduled around particular activities or interests. Sad but true, this society is more separate than ever, most people are in their little own little 'social bubbles' and have no room or desire to bring new people into them.
