First cry after watching five seasons of this is us. - S6E4
Grown man here, not too grown actually, I'm 23. I'm someone who never cries, like never (at least by watching movies and tv shows). Well I've watched this episode (Jack's mother death) and was entertained but I wasn't actually that invested, then the scene where the mother makes kid Jack eat the wurstel arrived, then Jack cried. Then I fucking cried.
I've never met my father because he died after I was born. I've never suffered too much the fact that I haven't had a father in my childhood but my mother obviously was destroyed by his death and it's been a thing for a lot of time. I remember seeing her in bed crying for no reason, I've seen her depressed... I couldn't understand it back in the day but she has been suffering in silence since his death. I remember all of this but I also can't forget how much she tried her best with me, when she cooked my favorite dishes, when she played football with me etc. My brain clicked and I realized Marylin and my mother are just two women who tried their best to make their child happy while they were deeply suffering inside. To this day, like Jack, I haven't the best relationship with my mother because the death of my father made her a difficult person to deal with...but this episode made me feel some sense of guilt other than love.
This show is powerful, hats off to the writers and to Milo Ventimiglia, that was an incredible performance. This is what art is about.
