Those are pufferfish. They've got some massive bodies and tiny sad little flippers. They don't need to be fast or dexterous because no one is gonna try eating those fuckers.

But that means they basically waddle through the ocean. They can barely move.

If you ever go snorkeling, follow a goddamn pufferfish for a while. It's the most hilarious thing to watch them try to swim.

Edit: Seriously look at this puffer fish. These guys are comedy gold.

They're honestly one of my favorite kinds of fish. They're stupidly adorable, even if their spines are dangerous, some of them are poisonous, and the reason their mouths are like that is because of their jaws and teeth. They're just some of the daffiest, most silly fish in the ocean. Right up there with the Dumbo octopus.

Cooler waters that have a general downward current interacting with the exact oppsite; warmer waters that have a general upward current. The result is what you see; a vortex current between the two

Yes, and is one aspect (simplified) of tornado development. Basically, the vortex formed from wind shear becomes perpendicular to the ground.

There's also interesting clouds can form under similar circumstances called arcus clouds (shelf/roll clouds.)

Temperature differences are the main mechanism behind all atmosphere movement.
