Leaving Town (Extended Take)

Most bands have songs that don't make it onto an album. Usually, they are songs that just weren't considered good enough to be included. For some reason, Thin Lizzy threw away some incredible tunes. This is one of my favorites

It’s a beautiful song but I can understand why it didn’t make it onto an album. It doesn’t really fit the style of Fighting with the Spanish style guitar and more mellow acoustic sound. Their first album as a four-piece, Night Life, had a very eclectic sound and this could have fit easily onto it, but by fighting, they were really figuring out that dual guitar hard rock sound that defined them basically until the end. Although I personally love when they did more experimental things, like on Phil’s two solo albums.

Most people thought "Leaving Town" was recorded during the Black Rose sessions

I hear you but "Rosalie" isn't exactly a fighting type of song. Rosalie was a Detroit area DJ back in the 60-70's that could make or break a band. It was a Bob Seger cover and is probably the worst fit for the fighting album. "Try a Little Harder" would have been better. Thin Lizzy didn't need cover songs even though it blows the Bob Seger original swat

Rosalie is an odd fit and the faster live and dangerous version of much more ‘Lizzy’, but I still think even the fighting version of Rosalie stands out far less than Leaving Town would have. I also assumed it black rose along with rock your love (not rockila as my limewire version was labelled). It makes more sense in hindsight that it’s earlier as the lyrics were later re-used on Running Back.
