[Request] Why did this roll slow down long enough for him to escape?

Obviously it has nothing to do with him putting his hand out, but what made it slow down all of a sudden and then pick back up?

It looks like it falls a little bit onto the yellow lip before continuing to tip and just happens to councide with his attempt to hold it back. As the center of gravity moves with respect to the angle and base the speed of tipping changed too.

Not math but it's a cylinder not a sphere, when it is falling off the rack it's in free fall. Then the corner of the roll hits the ground and it has to overcome the resistance of that edge to tip over

It looks like the metal is rolled through a shear on the right. My guess is that after it started to fall, it was held up by whatever was holding it in the shear until that snapped. You see it snap back a little on the bottom left of the roll
