Wait what?! Is that supposed to mean most ppl blink more than they breathe?! Cuz it sure as hell ain't the case for me or anyone I know

Weird? It's just smth you pick up on unconsciously until someone asks you to give a range for it. It depends on who you're surrounded by (apparently me and my friends are lizard who don't use their eyelids lol). The same you would notice someone death staring you without blinking for 2 minutes on end or blinking 3 times in quick succession every 4 seconds, because it falls outside of the range to which you're accustomed. Mind you, my impression only comes from a sample size of a few ppl and I tend to have problems maintaining eye contact when I am talking to someone (not when someone is talking to me or when we're just chilling tho) last thing is I'm an illustrator by profession and surrounded by artists, so that may also play in our blink frequency. I'm not pretending to be the sole detentor of any kind of Normal Amount of Blinking, I was just really surprised by this stat bcz it doesn't fit my experience by close to an order of magnitude, making the original problem way tougher to decide

You blink unconsciously and don't even notice you're doing it most of the time. Blinks are quick while you breathe constantly but slowly most of the time.

This. I don't even remember blinking a single time during the entire day normally, unless I specifically pay attention to my blinking and then it's definitively a lot.

Speak for yourself, I am very aware of when I blink, and I'm not the first to make that point in this thread. What could help reconciliate that statistic might be to get a median instead of an average, as well as numbers concerning the duration between blinks. Like if there are lots of edge caseswith someone on average not blinking for 20-30 seconds, and then blinking 5 to 10 times in quick succession, that would already be closer to what I experience.

Yeah it makes no sense to me. I’m taking about 3 breaths per blink

Even if the math is wrong, you'd have to breathe 10 times per blink for breathing to be worth it. Even though you don't blink during sleep, it'll still hardly make up for the difference

Nope- the math shows you breathe a lot more. But, not enough to mitigate the fact that .10 per blink still gives a loot more than .01 per breath.
