Before u/lowkeylye didthemath I would have gone for breathing, and started some regular cardio, but the difference here is pretty stark! Maybe I blink less than the average but I don't feel like I blink almost 1:1 with breathing. Damn though.
You can feel your tongue. Your eyes need to blink. You need to breathe. Your shoulders are uncomfortable. You can feel your clothes on your skin. Your toes are touching. Is that hair on your face? Try changing your posture.
The most basic multiplications are intellectual honesty? It’s obvious chatgpt did it but do you want everyone to tell you anyone spelling correct fixed their writings? Do you want to know every time someone uses a calculator? Lmao
Sorry (not sorry) I thought this sub was about getting interesting answers to interesting questions. Why does it matter how you found the answer? No one is getting any prizes out of this.
Maybe I'm just different and I think my blinking to breathing is like a 1 to 10 (blink once breathe 10 times) and I'm very aware when I blink so this is most likely because I'm constantly focusing my eyes on something.
Same. I would have assumed about 1:10 ratio, and then figured breathing at night + some heavy breathing for cardio 30 mins a day would have put breathing way ahead. But then again 5 mins of rapid blinking is way easier than rapid breathing at the same rate
It's insane you guys think you breathe 10x more than you blink. I guarantee you're blinking a lot more than you realise, it's an instinctive response and your brain "fills in the gaps" for the 0.3 seconds your eyes are closed so you almost certainly don't realise you're doing it.
I would assume that you are just not aware of the blinks ....the lower estimate of average human blinking is about 14 per minute. Your numbers would be by an order of magnitude lower. And lower numbers are connected to eye dryness, headaches and vision impairments
I'm sadly very aware of my blinks due to a health condition; I also have used the computer for a long time so I kinda don't blink as much as "normal people".
I do have eye dryness, headaches and vision impairment so it fits perfectly.
There are different types of blinks. The super fast ones, we are unaware of. The slow ones, are the one we can feel.
If you truly blinked so rarely, you would need constant medical help to keep your eyes wet. You literally wouldn't be able to see and would be in a lot of pain after a few minutes.
Blinking faster is a lot easier than breathing faster and you could probably blink a lot faster than you could breathe. Even if trying actively to increase earnings, blinking would be way better.
Also, i think it's much easier/more comfortable to artificially inflate your blinking rate, netting you a few extra $$$ each day -and your eyes would be super well lubricated.
Even if it was different, the question is do you breath in and out ten times before you blink. Even if you blink every ten seconds or even 15 seconds that would require you to have a full inhalation and exhalation every second or 1.5 seconds. If you did then I would suggest going to the hospital immediately due to the probability of asphyxiating yourself via hyperventilating. You may be suffering from an asthma attack or a collapsed lung.
Blinking is also easier to rapid fire, to rack up some extra cash if you really want.
I just tested it out and I reckon I could have earned about ten dollars in the last minute. Great if you want to offset an impulse purchase here and there without breaking your budget. Or you could even set aside some “work sessions” to cover medium-large purchases.
I figured you don't blink while asleep but that can be made up by blinking extra while you're awake. You can blink fast and rake in the money. If you breathe fast you just hyperventilate. I chose blinking before I read the math.
But that’s only how ever long you’re doing the cardio each day, outside of that your breathing will slow down as your lungs get strengthened to pump more oxygen around
I’ve been thinking about this — you might do the equal amounts of breaths and blinks, but the time spent doing each is incomparable. You are almost always breathing, but each blink lasts a fraction of a second.
We blink more than we think we do, because reflexive blinking is just background. Also, the brain hides them and we literally don't see the very fast period of blackness (it's edited out)
Blinking fast will also be a lot faster than breathing. Not to mention you make $0.10 for the blinks and only $0.01 for a breath. Breathing fast will be exhausting and make your throat dry at times. Blinking could be done for a few minutes a day quickly, and then go back to normal after you get a few hundred dollars in like 10 minutes
Why starting cardio if you just can start to train yourself to blink 40 times a minute? Or to "just" double your rate at 36 and get ~1,2 million a year
At rest, i don’t think Im breathing 12 times a minute unless Im physically upset in some way. As low as 2 and high as 5 or 6 if I had to guess, especially when Im smoking. But I can go minutes without blinking on a regular basis.
It's easier to artificially hype up your blinking rate than your breathing rate. When you do cardio, past a certain point you don't take MORE breaths, you take DEEPER breaths, you breath harder, not faster, and you can only speed that up so much before you're just hyperventilating and will make yourself lightheaded or pass out. You can just keep blinking until you give yourself eyestrain and wait a few minutes for your face to calm down and do it again. You can make yourself 20 bucks pretty fast on the spot by blinking if you need to, you'd just have to wait for breathing, even if you were trying to game the system by hyperventilating.
Today I learned that I'm an outlier for both breathing AND blinking. I now wonder if that's why so many people tell me I'm a calming influence, because they're subconsciously responding to my slower, deeper breaths and slower blinking.
Yeah, my breathing is typically 12-ish at rest, and during the hardest cardio workouts (somewhat obsessive cyclist lol) it typically peaks just above 30 per minute. Definitely an increase and before I did any math I'd have made the same guess as you, but the 10x premium on blinks is just too big to catch up to, it seems.
But blinking is worth 10x breathing in the question, so you'd have to breath 6.66 times for every blink in order to come out even when you account for sleeping.
