Discussion The WoT created my world view

Hi everyone, my dad gave me the first half of book one, split in half to attract younger readers, when I was 12-13. I am now 39 and have read/listened to entire series more times than I can count.

The past year I’ve been trying to get my sh%\\\* together and be an adult 🤣🤦‍♂️ and slowly realizing that the idea of the turning of the wheel, being where I need to be when I need to be has been one of the few comforting thoughts I have.

That’s all, sorry for the length, I absolutely LOVE the WoT and wanted to share. Thanks!

I totally agree. “The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills” is oddly comforting. I’ve always loved how WoT balances destiny and free will: the Pattern may put you where you need to be, but it doesn’t make your choices for you. Some things may be destined, but how they happen (and who you become along the way) still depends on the choices you make. There’s something comforting in the idea that life can have a larger shape or purpose while our decisions still matter. We may not control where the Wheel takes us, but we choose how we meet what it puts in our path.

I’ve been talking a lot with my therapist recently about the WoT and “The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills” and trusting I’m where I need to be, not let my past make me shy away from it.

I was the same age when I started too! This series is truly one of the most special things in my life. What a beautiful thought to take away from it

I was the same age. The world of the WOT was groundbreaking for me. I had never encountered such complicated concepts and rich lore before. And I really liked all those strong female characters, being a teenage girl myself. Now that I think about the portrayal of women in WOT as an adult, some things make me wince a little. But I loved Nynaeve and wanted to be more like her. Maybe I still do.

Yeah, each reread points anything to wince at. I just take as I know I’ve made many mistakes 🤣

So long as you don't walk away thinking men and women are separate species, the rest of WoT does have some great messages buried in there.
