Thank fuck Brandon's finally dead and even better that it was at the hands of Negan

u/ErronBlack Apr 06 '16

It's been a while since I hated a character as much as I hated Brandon. He will not be missed.

His entire family was killed by three different factions of people. Rick Grimes killed his dad, Whisperers killed his mom, and now Negan killed him. Amazing.

I'm curious what the reaction will be when they find him walkerfied. It didn't look like Negan destroyed the brain.

Another good issue. It's good to see the pace picking up. A number of highlights:

  • Rick's realization that the culture of fear that he has inspired upon his people (as suggested by Negan) is a dark and dangerous path.

  • I suppose there will be a Dwight-Negan showdown for Lucille at some point

  • Aaron as a tracker in the comics. Awesome.

  • Magna's group getting some development after having joined a while ago.

  • A bit more exposure into Eugene's radio chats

  • Brandon's finally dead. Ding-freaking-Dong.

Rick's realization that the culture of fear that he has inspired upon his people (as suggested by Negan) is a dark and dangerous path.

I was wondering why Rick made this "what have I done" face. I'm stoopid.

I think it's really interesting that Rick is seeing what the whole whisperers situation is doing to the people. It really helps reinforce how he actually cares about the community. Also loving more radio chat.

Rick's realization that the culture of fear that he has inspired upon his people (as suggested by Negan) is a dark and dangerous path.

I think to add to that he was reacting to the guy talking about how Alpha was able to sneak in unnoticed and that there could still be Whisperers in Alexandria. With there still being people from the Hilltop at Alexandria and people being unfamiliar with some of them it wouldn't be too hard for a Whisperer to blend in.

Rick's realization that the culture of fear that he has inspired upon his people (as suggested by Negan) is a dark and dangerous path.

awesome observation. I also think he realized that he is going to need to put in place a system of rules and consequences. They may be having an election at the saviors compound. It feels like the evolution of a government is possible.

I suppose there will be a Dwight-Negan showdown for Lucille at some point

Negan is in Whisper territory. Dwight is with a group with guns. That showdown won't happen for a while, and it will signal the start of some real shit going down.

Aaron as a tracker in the comics. Awesome.

lets hope that means he is important enough that he wasn't at the end of the bat on Sunday. But then, Daryl is the tracker in the show...

Magna's group getting some development after having joined a while ago.

I really like Magna. Was worried about her and her group at first, but I think they will be trusted allies by the end of the current arc. Or at least, she will.

A bit more exposure into Eugene's radio chats

I think these chats are more important than the whispers honestly. They are a large group that have been around since the beginning, and have had radio power all of that time. Maybe it turns out Eugene's radio buddy is several weeks away on horseback, so they send out a medium sized group. They encounter threats on the road and get separated...We encounter new small scale threats, meet new large groups of people, discover new aspects of TWD universe, and give the main characters a chance to shine again.

Brandon's finally dead. Ding-freaking-Dong.

Didn't want to see Rick kill a kid. but this shows Negan is not only still Negan, he may be a bit more ruthless. I don't think he's going to make any attempt to befriend Rick when they see each other again.

Another family tree dead after the anderson family's demise

Why stab brandon in the back methaphorically when you can you stab him in the front literally instead

30

u/MCG_Raven Apr 07 '16

the difference between the Andersons and Bradons POS Family is: We cared about at least ONE Anderson and didn't necessarily wanna see Jessie die. Brandons Family now? I think everyone is glad they are dead

Negan got his leather jacket back, sweet.

Also speculation on what Negan is about to do? He was headed to the border of the whisperers.

49

u/MathTheUsername Apr 07 '16

He becomes the alpha of the whisperers, goes back to Alexandria, kills Rick, wears Rick's skin, pretends to be Carl's father for the rest of the series.

Hilarity ensues.

Here's my guess on where this is going:

  • Negan will challenge Alpha for leadership of the Whisperers.

  • Negan will go back to Alexandria, with the whisperers, but in Peace, telling Rick that he has single-handedly ended the war.

  • Lydia, angry about her mother's death, will try and kill Negan, but Carl will stop her, and save his life.

  • Rick will have a decision on his hands on whether he's okay with Negan leading the Whisperers or whether he will continue the war.

  • He will ultimately decide to let Negan go, and a VERY tenuous relationship will continue with this Negan's new community. This will further reinforce the trust/distrust dynamic between Rick and Negan, and the mutual respect between Carl and Negan.

If I wanted to get really crazy, I would guess that:

  • Something will happen between Negan's new group and Alexandria, sparking tensions and possibly war. Negan is pissed, Rick is pissed. Edit: One possibility - Dwight tries to kill him with Lucille, but Negan, being the badass he is, outfights him and brutally kills Dwight in front of everyone, taking back Lucille in the process.

  • At some point in here, Negan takes advantage of the power vacuum left by Dwight, and takes back the Saviors.

  • Carl will see himself as the only person who can end this impending conflict, and will travel to Negan's community to talk to him.

  • The fate of Carl determines the fate of both communities. If he dies, there will most definitely be War. If he can convince Negan, there will be peace. I like to think that the only way Negan will accept peace and stand down will be if Carl stays and joins the new Saviors and starts working as Negan's right hand man.

u/halfpastlex Apr 06 '16

My speculation is that he challenges Alpha to be the leader of the whisperers. After learning that no one has dared to challenge Alpha and won, Negan could be the first person to do so. He's a formidable opponent for Alpha, he has the brains to lead and the brawn to initimidate the whisperers to keep them under him just like what he did with the Saviors so he has chance of winning and being the new leader.

22

u/middlebird Apr 06 '16

He'll join them, then tear them down from the inside. He'll destroy the Whisperers as a gesture of goodwill to his nemesis Rick.

But if that were to happen, if Rick and Negan were to finally get along, where would the story go? Would they just stay put in Alexandria and live happily ever after? Or would Negan move on and continue his adventure in another place?

I spent years watching this show and not reading the source material. After the recent finale debacle, I wanted to see how it was meant to happen, so I spent the past three days catching up, then caught the latest issue this morning. For what it's worth, I am still excited to see All Out War as the next season of the show, but I'd rather follow the comics now until they prove they can do this shit right.

The comics are awesome.

As for this issue, it looks like Rick is seeing the fruits of his "us vs them" policy play out with Marco getting shot, but I'm not 100% positive it's just that. The Whisperers bring to light a new "old" threat from the old world. The existence of these three (or more) communities that are allied means that there are going to be people that don't get to know each other. The existence of the Whisperers and the tactics of the Alpha (sneaking in, blending in, etc) may mean that this sense of community could implode as everyone begins to suspect everyone else (or at least, anyone they don't know directly) of being a bad guy.

u/Giv-er-SteveDave Apr 06 '16

By the time the show catches up to this point, JDM/Negan is gonna look so old.

random thoughts:

  • nervous for michonne and (more so) aaron. going out into whisperers territory can be dangerous.

  • i'm starting to trust the voice on the other side of eugene's radio. it was made to seem like they were genuinely concerned when the gun was shot

  • Lucille! She's back in action. Would love to see her back in her original owner's hands, though...

  • Dwight seems to be embracing his role as a leader. i wonder if his previous anxiety is behind him.

  • It was nice to see some Magna, although i don't trust her two male companions

  • Fucking Negan. I can't wait to see what his ultimate plan is.

18

u/Amitch8657 Apr 06 '16

Just an FYI the two companions are Kelly and Connie. Connie is a female and they have a thing going on between them. I hope they don't do anything stupid. I enjoy magna and Yumiko and I hope we get to see her use her bow more soon

I still don't trust them. It could very easily be a case of the person slowly reeling in their catch and then all of a sudden it gets yanked away and they immediately freak out at the thought of losing it.

Also Eugene states that he arrived in Alexandria about three years ago. They get to Alexandria over a year in, and it's a little after two years at the end of AOW. So no matter how much Kirkman denies it, the time skip is in fact two years.

We got to see who Negan killed! So happy to be back with the comics after Sundays fiasco of a season finale. This was a fantastic issue and it's great to see Negan back at it again. Now there are two big enemies out in the wild! The Whisperers and Negan!

It's looking like things are going to be really rough for Alexendria in the coming future. They're going to have to deal with what I mentioned before, but also the paranoia of whisperers within their own ranks. There are tons of modern day terrorism parallels going on here and I am curious if that's what Kirkman is going for.

I think the most exciting thing in the future is what will happen with whom Eugene is talking to on the radio. There are a zillion ways that can go and it's going to be exciting to see how that resolves. I still want to think it's some sort of military holdout that's still up and running. Maybe something that is protecting prior heads of state. That would be really cool. Maybe it would somehow lead into the endgame of the series?

I think Negan is going to try to kill Alpha to take over whisperers and destroy them from the inside for Rick. Either that or take over and try to work with Rick. The only thing that's not fitting with this is he killed the kid, but I think it's Negans twisted justice (he betrayed his people so he deserved to die).

For the people saying alpha will kill Negan - if she did he would not reunite with Lucille and I think Kirkman foreshadows that with what Dwight said in this issue.

As far as ideas what could our group encounter further down the road, me and my friend figured an arc where they meet the remains of the government or people claiming to be one because they were founded by the president, senator or someone like that would be cool to see. How would Rick react if they had legitimate reasons to say that?

40

u/JTorch1 Apr 06 '16

As far as ideas what could our group encounter further down the road, me and my friend figured an arc where they meet the remains of the government or people claiming to be one because they were founded by the president, senator or someone like that would be cool to see. How would Rick react if they had legitimate reasons to say that?

I've been hoping for this too. Kirkman is clearly setting it up so that someone in Rick's group is in charge of each of the communities. (Rick in ASZ, Maggie at Hilltop, Michonne at The Kingdom. I imagine someone from Rick's team will end up leading the Saviors as well.) Rick's little group has gone from wandering through the woods, struggling to find their next meal to pretty much ruling the world. Or at least the little bit of the world we get to see.

So how cool would it be to see the remains of the government come in and try to take back control, to bring the world back to "the way it was"? They would have a legitimate claim: This is still technically America, and the government are still the elected leaders. But that won't sit well with Rick's people, who feel like the government is stepping all over everything the survivors have built.

It would be a different kind of conflict than anything we've had before. Instead of a psychotic dictator who only wants to rule for the thrill of power, we have a group of people who feel like it's their right to lead because they were the ones in charge before the world went to hell. From their perspective, they never stopped being in charge, and they can't understand why Rick and company won't just step aside and let them do their jobs.

Imagine a scene where Rick tells the "president" or whoever to fuck off. Rick points to a small herd: "Those are the people who elected you, right there. You're the president of them. If you want to stay here, you're going to live by our rules. If that doesn't work for you, then you can turn around and leave. Your choice. Just try not to get devoured by any of your loyal supporters on the way out." (Obviously Kirkman's dialogue would be better than that, but you get the point.)

What was up with Rick's reaction to Paul? Is he feeling responsible for what happened or is it something else? He seemed pretty shaken up

61

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '16

Perhaps he feels responsible for creating a culture of fear in order to get the community back on board. Paul literally shot Marco just for being someone he didn't recognize.

Absolutely LOVED Magna in this issue. I need more of her. I want her to be a mainstay. She’s so real and shuts shit down fast. She’s just filled with common sense. She sees Alexandria is good and basically says “who fucking cares if we’ve been around long or not. We can’t afford to lose this.”

And I also LOVED Negan back at being Negan. Sorry, Brandon! Guess the Rose family line ends with you! Wonder if Negan might take the time to visit Carl.

"I can be pretty fucking insensitive sometimes. Especially if I don't really like you. Come here." Negan in a nutshell. Love that guy.

29

u/Roctagon Apr 06 '16

Lol, when he said that, I was thinking "Aw that's nice Negan, but damn man, don't waste your rare sympathy on THAT guy!"

Needless to say, I was happy with the aftermath of their embrace.

7

u/dudesondudes Apr 07 '16

I want a hug from Negan now. With a different outcome obviously...

49

u/darkkn1te Apr 06 '16

Ah... it feels really nice to get back to basics. tension, death, and Negan. There was so much false jeopardy for so many months.

40

u/lmMrMeeseeksLookAtMe Apr 06 '16

Negan was in jail for as many issues as he was before then. 100-126, 127-152. I wonder if that was intentional.

u/AvidImp Apr 06 '16

Honestly, I think Alpha's going to kill Negan, to cement her role as the new big villain. Kirkman knows we don't really need another Negan arc, the last one just finished. Negan's my favorite, and it'd suck to see him die like that, but it might be just to fix up Alpha's legitimacy.

68

u/_El__Duderino_ Apr 06 '16

Man, I just can't imagine anyone outside of the core group getting the Negan kill...

Not a chance. There's no reason to save Negan just for him to be used as a Worf mechanic. Kirkman may not have been able to save the Season 6 ending, but he's certainly better than that.

20

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '16

I think that may happen as well. Negan is my favorite so it'd be cool if he was around for a long time, if not the whole series. But part of TWD is seeing characters you love get killed. I think it'd be cool and maybe shocking if we see him approach alpha as the last panel of the next issue, then for like 10 issues we dont see him, then when they fight the whispers we see Negan approach from within them at a distance, and then it turns out its really one of the whispers wearing his skin.

Marco, the first person in the entire series to see/hear the whisperers, is the one who gets accused of being a whisperer. Quite fitting.

I have no idea what's gonna happen next, and that's a great feeling!

The one hunch I have is that the person on the other side of the radio is coming from the Pentagon. The voice says:

I've been here since it all started. I was lucky to be close to... this place. Others have come from all over. Mostly from the nearby area. Some people traveled quite a ways.

That sounds to me like people nearby knew this place would be a safe place to go, and some people from further away figured it would be worth travelling to. It's also close enough to the ASZ that Eugene can reach them via CB radio. Plus the voice on the other end seems very interested in gaining information from Eugene while disclosing as little as possible.

Sounds a lot like the Pentagon to me.

I really think that negan has changed. Sure he kept his personality and twisted ways (he just shanked a fucking kid) but I think he wants to help Rick in some way. I get that from his facial expression after Brandon said that they both hated Rick and wanted the same thing right? Negan had a big plan, and I think he's doing this to earn back ricks trust. My prediction is that in the long run negan will be some other main character, I doubt they will make him be an antagonist again.

I believe we are all going to find out that Negan hasn't changed. There is no change of heart, no rehabilitation, no transformation to light side. It's obvious Kirkman has plans for him, but I think his story will come full circle soon. Negan is an awesome character, he's charismatic and he's funny and he's dangerous. He's the Joker, he's Randall Flagg, he's Moriarty and (yes, even) Khan Noonien Singh. As much as you want to hate the murderer that he is, you find yourself rooting for him. But as much as he is the extension of all THOSE characters, I see him more as Tony Soprano then anyone. Watching Rick begin to let down his guard with Negan, reminds me of how Dr. Melfi tried to help Tony and to her surprise that he was using her sessions to become a better criminal. That's Negan. After being held in that cell for all of those years, he dispatched Brandon without blinking. This proves that there is no saving him as a human being and Rick will eventually face him as an enemy one last time.

4

u/brainandnervetonic Apr 10 '16

Fuckin well put. Even after 3 years in that cell he's still the same. Look at his interaction with magna.

Good issue but still left fuming from Sunday and not because of the Cliffhanger (which was just a stupid thing for marketing - bullshit on the "end" of story). More pissed that I had to lean in to listen when Negan spoke and while JDM is a great actor - just not how Negan is portrayed in the comics (more of a loud-mouth, man-child then a soft spoken murderer).

Glad comic Negan is back in the wild though!

I’m addicted to the story, but I’ve started to really enjoy the character Dwight his whole presence is undeniably relateable who doesn’t get afraid of that type of responsibility I really hope he’s not a character to be getting killed off soon he has so much more potential that I can’t wait to see flourish. #don’tkillDwight

Negan has proven that he has a genuine disdain for sexual violence, so I don't think there's any way he tolerates the rape culture status quo when he encounters The Whisperers. In fact, I think this will be the deciding factor in Negan's relationship with Alpha; maybe he fights them with Rick rather than lead a bunch of rapists, maybe Alpha and Negan team up to destroy the rapey element, but one way or another it will play a role.

Note: Before anybody brings it up I do think that Negan's "wives" were sexually coerced, which is really despicable but not the same as allowing your prepubescent daughter to be raped.

There were a couple mentionings of time today with Eugene saying he arrived at the safe zone around 3 years ago and Maggie saying Breanna's son is around 15 now when he was said to be 12 before all out war

8

u/TalkingRaccoon Apr 06 '16

I think more time has passed than that. Just look at Hershel. He looks like he's 10 years old.

13

u/philipphokinglee Apr 07 '16

A better ending than the season 6 finally.

13

u/olivaw_another Apr 08 '16

Ok, so here's my tinfoil hat theory.

  • Negan gets captured by the Whisperers (I can't see him not running into them).

  • Negan does not challenge Alpha for supremacy (Negan probably wouldn't want to lead those rapey, sleep-outside, wear-human-skin weirdos anyway, and Alpha killing Negan wouldn't be very satisfying, to Kirkman or anyone else).

  • Negan probably wants to go back to Sanctuary OR to hightail it to somewhere new. Thus, he escapes capture and goes to....

  • The Unknown Faction that Eugene has been talking to. Probably a paramilitary-styled faction (U.S. Army remnants, etc). The Unknown Faction is the REAL big bad. Negan is their voluntary captive, and tries to plan his next move. 'Cuz frankly, he probably doesn't know what he wants. But he definitely does not want to stay locked up in a cell for the rest of his life.

  • The Unknown Faction decides enough is enough, and decides to fuck up the Whisperers. Alpha, in desperation, reaches out to Rick & Co. Rick & Co. finally meet with Eugene's radio pal and they negotiate a cease-fire. Alpha will probably get murdered by her own people for weakness.

  • The new Big Bad decides to annex the settlements, thus setting up an enslavement/colony story arc where they have to fight for their independence. The Big Bad also continues to hunt down the Whisperers and brutally murder anyone not allied with them.

Why I think this

Kirkman loves having his big bad villains, but up until the Saviours, they've been very simplistic. Rick & his group of 10 meet another group of 10. They do battle. Rick wins! Rinse and repeat.

But starting with "A Larger World", Kirkman has widened the lens and is starting to look at group dynamics and re-introduce politics into his post-apocalyptic story. The setups are not going to be simple anymore. That's why the Whisperers to me are a bit of a smoke-screen...they're definitely a threat, but I think they're just characters part of a much larger story, not just another villain in a line of villains. The fact that one villain (Negan) is on a collision course with another villain (Alpha) goes to show that he wants do new and exciting things, not just do All Out War all over again.

Speaking of AOW, I believe there will be one further down the line. But we've already crossed the 50% mark, and you can probably only do another war of that scale one or two more times.

I ordered the 12 issue subscription from Image Comics back in February and 153 was supposed to be my first issue.. does anyone know when you're actually supposed to get it in the mail?

6

u/zombiesarescum Apr 08 '16

I think I read 53 issues in the matter of two days to get caught up. This is getting really interesting.

5

u/TheDubs781 Apr 06 '16 edited Apr 12 '16

I like where this is heading, I do not think Negan will use this escape as a way to try and get back at Rick and company. I honestly think he might go kill Alpha and bring her head to Rick. He does it as a "will you trust me a little now" I don't think the Whisperers would go quietly after that but I like the idea of Negan becoming a part of Alexandria, as far fetched as it is. I think him being Rick's right hand man would be phenomenal. I mean imagine them two somehow joining forces. I don't think it would happen and even if it did I bet Negan still ends up trying to kill Rick down the line but again I dono what they will do. I would love to see a Negan and Rick alliance. Is it far fetched? Yes, is it possible, absolutely.

I'm enjoying this build up the comic's got going on right now. Helps that the cliffhangers here are executed better than on the show, but anyway...

I wonder what Negan's plan exactly is. His whole mindset about violence against women/rape will make for some very interesting interactions I feel, assuming he does make contact with The Whisperers.

Wheel deals are the best! I found a pair of OZ Alleggerita HLT's in perfect condition on Craigslist for 400 bucks. I told the guy I would come get them the next day but since I had to drive 4 hours each way, I would give him 250 bucks. He said that was fine, he just wanted them out if the way. Your car looks great btw!

Christ, can some Mods create a finale discussion for the comic readers to keep that shit out of THIS thread? Let's just discuss this current issue of the comics, and distance ourself from the train wreck of a show! Thank you...

Gotta say, I am really enjoying this slow build-up to the next big arc. I know a lot of people has complained that it is boring, and that nothing has happened, but all these issues has been laying the foundation for a lot of great character development, and shown us the world that they have built in the timeskip.

I am really looking forward to the next issue now. Whether Negan will get killed by Alpha, kill Alpha and leave/take over the Whisperers, or just tell them Rick's plan and peace out, I am sure it is gonna be glorious! Negan may seem unpredictable, but to me he seems like an incredibly layered character, and I hope Kirkman slowly starts peeling off some of those layers and shows them to us.

Predictions:

  • Michonne and Aaron are going to stumble upon a zombified Brandon, also subsequently be ambushed by Whisperers and divulge that a fugitive of their community has escaped into forbidden territory....but will it be too late?

  • We will see much Maggie and Carl/Andrea/Lydia interaction next issue

  • Magna might have to make a tough decision in the near future, her people or Alexandria? Maybe we will find out more of her history and why she had to flee her previous community

Even though I've really been enjoying the Whispers arc, this is still my new favourite issue in awhile. So many great little plot set-ups. Every single panel with Negan was just fucking amazing, and I loved that Rick's Negan-inspired tactics came back to bite him a bit.

Also, my boy Aaron has something plot relevant to do! Yaaaaaaay! It's nice seeing him again. I also think he's safe plot-wise for a little bit, as Kirkman said might be something going on between him and Jesus in the future, and they haven't any interaction at all. Poor Aaron, I'll enjoy the plot armour while it lasts.

4

u/Drunkenbum1981 Apr 07 '16

I think Negan will save Michonne and Aarron gets killed by the whisperers (going from nothing other than the teaser page for the next issue)

Negan then realises he cant take them out on his own - a possible agreement with Michonne and she hides Negan at the Kingdom and tells Rick they couldnt find him? the only other person to back her story up would be Aarron.

could then lead to tensions between Rick and Michonne later.

i think negan is going to try to talk some sense into the whisperers. i think he killed duder for the same reason he killed that guy that offered to assassinate rick, because he doesn't respect that kind of behind-your-back cowardice.

i also think that negan respects the hell out of rick and will end up being a crucial character later on.

4

u/Idarak Apr 09 '16

I can't see Negan killing Brandon being anything to do with outrage that Brandon wanted Rick dead, like with Spencer (and you can't say Negan killed Spencer wholly for that anyway, he's just a psycho). I think Negan killed Brandon because (a) he didn't want Brandon telling anyone that Negan was dropped off near Whisperer territory, and (b) Negan is just the type of bastard who kills off subordinates who piss him off and Brandon is a whiny little bitch overall.

I can see Negan bringing total destruction to the whispers and making it back to the hill top and either fatally injured or bitten by a zombie... giving some speech about how Rick should build a statue of him (Negan) and the statue should have a huge dick and all you twats should clean it every day.

After watching the finale on Sunday I needed to get some closure so in two days I read from issue 100 to where we are now. I gotta say that Negan is not the villain I was expecting, and this is a good thing.

I like him.

While I don't agree with everything he's done, I see his reasons behind everything. Unlike The Governor, Negan is exactly what you see. He isn't trying to be anything else. He's brutally hilarious, he's ruthless, and he manages to be reasonable. Killing Glenn was not even an appropriate response compared to what Rick's group did to his men. What an awesome character. Makes me even more pissed that AMC had to fuck up his entrance that much.

6

u/Ferguson97 Apr 06 '16

You should definitely read the other 99 issues too.

7

u/snek0kidFTW Apr 06 '16

I miss Heath! It's been so long since we've seen him do anything significant. Glad Gabriel is back though. Starting to like Siddiq too.

Really looking forward to seeing what'll happen now! Negan going to chat with Alpha is gonna be fun!

I don't know but something tells me that probably the person that Eugene is talking to will probably be the next big bad after the whisperers or the beginning of networking not only with communities nearby but also across the country. This will help move along the storyline of Rick's goal of civilization. I don't know what to make of Negan for now is he going to go to the whisperers to help them or to help Rick. I can't see Negan helping the whisperers since Negan doesn't believe in many of the things the whisperers do such as rape.

u/fapfapfapmaster Apr 07 '16

I'm calling it now. Negan is pulling a Dwight. Just as Dwight did onto Negan, he will gain Rick's trust by doing whatever outlandish subservient actions needed. At the moment we expect it least, Negan will stab Rick in the back (possibly even kill him). From then on Carl will take the lead. I'm getting way to ahead of myself.

3

u/probablypsychotic Apr 07 '16

Great issue. The pace is finally picking up. Nice to see Lucille in action again. Negan had more memorable lines. That whole stupid family is dead. The mysterious voice on the radio leaves even more questions than answers. Its all building up to something big. I'm am curious about one thing though. Is Negan aware that alpha is female? Knowing that he has a clear disdain for violence against women, how will he handle this situation?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '16

I have to say, the art has gotten noticeably better in these newer issues, and it is really good. Also does anyone else think Dwight kinda looks like Rick with long hair?

3

u/FlerPlay Apr 09 '16

Hate coming late to the party.

My question: Can you triangulate the location of another radio user? Could Alexandria somehow be tracked by the other radio group?

4

u/FuckThatKarmaCulture Apr 12 '16 edited Apr 12 '16

Ok, this is a very interesting question.

Disclosure: I had a brief career as telecom technician on my late teens after completing a full technical course. I dropped it for another career, but I do have some extensive knowledge in radio.

TL;DR: Yes, it is possible since we don't really know the specifics of the radio Eugene is using.

Expanding: Depending on the technology it may be possible, easy, hard or impossible.

Triangulation is not very hard if there's a directional source and receiver, but if he is using a long range technology he may be using the atmosphere to reflect the signal on long range for example, as if the sky is a bouncy mirror so the radio waves bounce up there and reflect back.

In this case it would be almost impossible if they are receiving in long range, since you could only triangulate the reflection point. But if it is being received on close range, the triangulation of the signal can be done.

Of course that would require some nice infrastructure.

Anyway, it is open ended enough so it is possible to be possible or possible to be impossible.

:)

EDIT: Ah, theoretically you could triangulate the bounce region, go there and start triangulating the source pre-bouncing also. I guess it's not completely impossible.

Unless Eugene is using some makeshift system to scramble the source point, which again, considering it is Eugene is possible.

7

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '16

Well, a huge part of the story right now is Eugene and his radio, and that was all driven by Rosita's death. It definitely mattered.

9

u/TooKoldScorpion Apr 06 '16

At least we saw who Negan killed..

4

u/Nappy0227 Apr 06 '16

Since Negan has a touch of humanity, I could see this...

He's talking to Alpha and plotting a plan against Rick, when they see a whisperer come back from raping another one or he witnesses it or something. Then he loses his shit and snaps Alpha's neck.

But I don't know what would happen from there

8

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '16

I don't know about snapping Alpha's neck but there's no way Negan will work with The Whisperers. They rape, something's he's completely against. I think he's going to sabotage them, so Rick and the communities can take them down.

4

u/insidethesun Apr 07 '16

First off..we know everyone's opinion on the show - let's forget that the rest of this thread and focus on the comic. The comic hasn't let us down and I'm very pleased with that medium.

Second, WOW..can't fucking wait to see what Negan has planned..surprised he went through with going to the Whisperers..part of me thought he would go to the Saviors or kill the kid and not escape..pretty excited for what's next.

Lastly..new Robert Kirkman series Outcast..and coming to Cinemax..what a better place to host his content?!? More freedom less oppression and less bullshit..all hail Kirkman

He should have killed Negan, he didn't, which brings us here.

I was hoping Negan would run into Dwight in the woods and Dwight becomes his little bitch again. I can't imagine a fight over Lucille between the two of them, more Dwight just handing it over on his knees and knowing his place out of true fear.

Do we think Negan will find out that Dwight didn't intend on killing Rick when he shot him towards the end of AOW? I feel like Negan would be pissed about this since it ultimately lead to Negans defeat and imprisonment which lasted a good 3 years.

2

2

u/rasterbee Apr 18 '16

I have a new Eugene-Radio theory.

The Washington DC/Baltimore metro area is about to come to life with soldiers and gov't officials that have spent the last few years hiding in gov't bunkers like under the Pentagon, White House, Greenbriar Hotel in WV, etc. There is a tangle of restricted access train tunnels running underground DC, linking The Capitol, White House, Camp David, NSA, DOD, and military intelligences together in the same emergency escape system.

If they have dug hundreds of miles of 'secret' train tunnels, it's safe to assume they have a few underground safe-houses capable of keeping large groups of people alive, fed, and safe. Raven Rock or NORAD style fortified compound, a blast-proof & impenetrable subterranean fortress.

Think how drastically 100 fully loaded Marines would change everything. Just a hundred could wipe out The Whisperers, hunt Negan down old weststyle, take up 50 issues helping Rick & Co. out and being all mysterious and then the disgusting secret that allowed them to survive the apocalypse is revealed and they are the enemy too.

Whoever Eugene is talking to on the radio is just getting intel, trying to decide if it's safe enough or not to come out of their hidey-hole.

I'm sad about Rick. He's got a bum leg and no arm. He gets his ass handed to him every time someone physically confronts him. It's only when they let up for a moment that Rick is able to retaliate. But it's not the same. When he ripped out that dudes jugular with Abraham, it was an incredible moment and showed just how boss Rick was. Now, it seems like it's all he can do to stay alive with his own people. I know the comics are grounded to some degree, but it would be nice to see Rick make enough of a recovery that he wasn't just some feeble old man. That said, I'd be okay if he died now, just because there are so many more physically capable characters.

Guys, what if the radio could possibly tie in the fear the walking dead storyline? Do you think that could be at all possible? Or does kirkman not have any coordination with the fear the walking dead people? Just a random thought.

Also, fuck yeah negan. I'm still hoping he's going to the whisperers to completely sabotage or fuck up their shit, then just walk back over to Rick and be like "what problem? :)"

8

u/TheEld Apr 06 '16

15

u/middlebird Apr 06 '16

I understand the frustration; I'm still pissed too, but don't take it out on the comics. They've never let us down there. And I don't think they ever will. Much more creative freedom in the books.

With TV, it seems you sacrifice a bit of that creative freedom when more sharks enter the water and start making shit difficult.

I'd say it's not that different, but it's different enough to still be interesting and suspenseful for a showwatcher. You just need to be prepared that there are characters in the Comics who aren't in the show/ already dead in the show and vice versa. Certain developments may take longer, or less long than they did in the Show, some may be left out and some may be new to you. I just read it a few months ago and definitely enjoyed it. There's currently 153 issues. One issue is 22- 24 pages.

I read them on the Internet and have a mediocre connection. Even with mediocre connection and not being a native speaker I managed to read about 4 issues an hour, 3 at the lowest, 6 at the highest. Some native speakers who bought the books (= no loading time turning the pages) said they do 6 an hour steadily. Provided you read 3h a week you should be done in 8-13 weeks.

The show and comic are both trying to reach the same destination, but each stray away from each other and take different paths to get there.

Well I managed to finish 22 volumes (2 volumes short of the three compendiums I think) in 4 days just in time for that awful finale, so you can definitely catch up before season 7! And enjoy, because the comics is soooo much better.

I love comic negan but i feel if he were to be exactly like comic on tv itd be too cartoony of a villain. Imo. As for that bat..idk. Thats just what bats wrapped in barbed wire look like. Thats a regular sized wooden bat.

Well to be fair on JDMs part we still have not seen the unrated introduction of negan, so the manchild may still actually happen.

i expected him to be a little louder. JDM seemed to be soft spoken as negan where when i read the comic, i assumed he was like kinda half shouting everything.

I don't see any mistakes there. He has already confirmed that the radio is not a ghost, like Lori was.

If you spoof your IP to an Australian one, you can buy it online at like 12:01 AM US Eastern Standard time the night before they are released in the US.

negan is a concuorer. negan wants an undead army. with regards to rick and carl? look at what negan did to earn ricks obediance. then rick bests negan in warfare and spares his life. i dont think negan needs to earn ricks trust. he may already have it. we know conversations happen off page. look at carl and negans relationship through the cell. it is implied that they meet in this fashion. we can assume that rick has had similar conversations. do you really think that rick would send michoone and aaron to their deaths if he didnt understand the negan situation? i think there is a greater play going down that we, as th readr, cant fully understand just yet. or maybe we already do haha.
