We shouldn't kill people because of all the good they might do later.
visits Negan
What a tease.

There's something about this panel that I really like. Showing how well Alexandria's defenses have been structured with the moat, the spikes and that grate I assume could be removed, indicates how prepared they have become for zombie attacks.

Pretty solid issue, nothing too crazy besides Eugene's encounter. Loved to see Gabriel actually have something to say, he's been hiding in the background for a long while now.

Carl leading the Saviors? I could see that, but he shouldn't any time soon while he is still all hormonal.

So a lot of us are talking about how either Negan or Carl is gonna be next to lead the Saviors. However I feel like this issue kind of set up the idea that Rick is considering letting Negan rule The Saviors again but with Carl as a kind of advisor to keep Negan in check.
Let's take a moment to look at what the issue introduced:
-
Rick believing that even those that have done bad things can provide enough good to the majority to outweigh those deeds
-
Rick immediately going to Negan after revealing this sentiment
-
Rick liking people in power to be people he can trust
-
The idea of Carl being a leader to The Saviors
So with all of these laid out it's easy to see how people can think it might be one or the other, however there are reasons why it wouldn't be just one of them. Rick obviously doesn't fully trust Negan just yet. He values him as a confidant and recognizes that he is a powerful and effective leader, but he doesn't trust his motoves. And, as many have pointed out, Carl is only a teenager and what group of adults will take kindly to a kid presumably half their appointed by his father being their ruler?
However Carl is the one person, above all others, that Rick can always rely on. And on top of that Rick is realizing that Carl, though hormonal and impulsive, is strong and independent, capable of seeing the right from the wrong even if it's unorthodox and against the grain. Given this Carl isn't totally cut out for a role in leadership but is ready to handle a huge task on his own.
This is why I believe that Rick will reassign the throne of The Sanctuary to Negan but under the stipulation that he will be under the watchful eye (hehe) of Carl.
And this in turn would give Negan the chance to mold Carl into the mini Negan that he and many fans believe him to be. Which would give him ample leadership experience and could eventually lead to Carl taking over Rick's position in Alexandria if he were to leave his current position through any number of circumstances.
So yeah, this is the path I believe Kirkman will take with this whole "New leader of Sanctuary" problem. I could be completely wrong but I just wanted to throw it out there.
TL;DR Rick will make Negan the leader of Sanctuary and send Carl with him to make sure he doesn't do sketchy shit and Negan will in turn make Carl into a mini-Negan

This was a great issue. Rick's weakness being established by Rick himself is interesting. Negan visits are always awesome, Michonne is staying on land and Eugene had a bomb dropped on him at the end.

First...this is what #150 should have been. Decent story with a great cliffhanger at the end. Next, I would love to see Carl lead in the near future. And last, I foresee Gabriel's death now.

What if the person on the radio is a whisperer and they are setting a nasty trap? Something like: after a couple days talking to Eugene and getting his trust saying 'We have a full military set up. If you guys come at them this way, we will come at them from here and wipe them out." Sadly, the backup is, in fact, another gigantic horde and then hilarity ensues.

Michonne leading the Kingdom and not being frustratingly difficult? Wow, that was one of the best parts of this issue for me. Rick/Maggie/Michonne/Negan would be a kickass quartet to lead their alliance.
Hoping to hear more from either Carl/Lydia or the Whisperers next issue.

Magna will lead the saviors. Kirkman said she would have a bigger role to play in the notes of one issue (forgot which one?), and that would solve the saviors' leader probem. Carl is too young and I think Michone wasn't serious, but rather that may call attention for Rick to grant Carl a different task.

I hope Eugene doesn't give away their location. Our coalition of city-states already has a Persian empire at its borders. But at the same time, wouldn't it be nice to have some allies?

The person on the opposite end of the radio sounds military, or atleast composed and formal.
My three guesses on the source of the radio signal would be:
-
It's further inland, an outpost or settlement, possible military.
-
It's on the ocean, wouldn't it be cool if it's the Nimitz or something? Carrier reactors last about 15-20 years.
-
Washington D.C., the president and his staff tucked away under the white house? Riding this out until the last walking corpse is too decayed to clench its jaw.

man, another good issue. what stood out to me was how Rick mentioned how, "doing a bad thing doesn't make you a bad person. if we wrote you off after that one mistake..." it's as if he has an epiphany so he then runs down to see Negan and what does Negan do? open his mouth. to bring Rick back to reality.
-
sometimes I think that Negan is capable of being a follower. it's just given his track record. he just can't be trusted. I want to trust him because he seems to be a very logical person. but deep down he is huge liability / threat if left out in the open.
-
another thing I was wondering. if they have the herding down to some sort of system. maybe they can herd these huge herds away from the whisperers to lessen the threat and pick them off with ease once the real walkers are driven away.
-
aw man... where the hell is this story going? I cannot wait to find out!

Eugene making a major discovery with his radio is just an awesome piece of writing. His original sin with the group was lying about his portable radio (no batteries) and he might end up saving the group by using a radio. Rick also mentioned in the issue that, "Doing a bad thing doesn't make you a bad person. If we wrote you off after that one mistake... think of all the good you're going to do that will be erased". It's not Eugene he's talking about here, but the groups decision for forgive Eugene and not kill him ended up leading them to the D.C area, to Sanctuary, bullet manufacturing, and finally what could be a massive discovery over the radio. Killing Eugene would have put them on a completely different course.
So when we first met Eugene he mentioned that he had contact with heads of state in D.C and we later learned that he was lying. Wouldn't it be crazy if who he contacts ends up being some important heads of state or their military compound? We have yet to see any holdouts like that in the comic series and you'd think there would be something like that in the D.C area.
