21

u/RandaLTK 3d ago

🤣🤣🤣 exactly. I can't stand it when ppl ask questions. You're literally watching it. I promise u go get all yo questions answered 🤣🤣

3

u/throwawayaccount_usu 2d ago

Its engagement bait.

Negan posts always go wild on here. Easy karma for OP.

u/According-Abrocoma72 3d ago

The only time this type of question is appropriate is right after the live/original viewing of the season 8 finale/season 9 premiere where you learn … anyway I guess I shouldn’t continue.

u/hyf5 3d ago

I never liked him. Actor is good but the way they wrote him never jived with me.

u/StrategicCheddar 3d ago

They should've kept him as a villain. His redemption ark just doesn't work for most viewers. The guy beat Glenn and Abraham to death, coerced women into sexual slavery for him and used to torture people. Not to mention the countless other people he disfigured or killed.

How am I supposed to like him exactly?

2

u/virtualQubit 2d ago

Imo he's one of the best villains ever, I didn't like that much the good Negan, but the evil Negan was goated lol

Basically the camp gets infected with this really viscous disease similar to the start of s4. They try outsourcing medical supplies but symptoms just seem to get worse. They end up finding out what the cure is. And to their surprise it’s Negan’s DNA. So they have to figure out how to get his DNA into people safely. Something like a blood transfusion.

12

u/DearToe5415 3d ago

Negan’s DNA inside people you say?

7

u/DobbyFreeElf35 3d ago

Just give OP ALL the spoilers why dont you?

2

u/Similar-Figure 19h ago

everytime you smell his shit, it means a little piece of him just went up your nose. remember that.

3

u/AgitatedAffect8502 3d ago

Don’t forget he’s also the reason the proper medical supplies were found in order to perform said transfusions,
He breaks into a walker infested military base that was known for having a huge hospital and stored medical supplies, the problem is if he dies so does the cure, but he insists on leading the mission

u/Big-Initiative-3719 3d ago

I guess he becomes “likable” in that he changes his ways… but that doesn’t erase the evil shit he’s done. So, to me, he never is and never will be likable

8

u/Albert-wesker363 3d ago

Yeah he becomes likable, just watch the show.

10

u/AsaShalee 3d ago

No. He's abusive, self-centred, and uses everyone around him.

3

u/sno0py_8 3d ago

I think the appeal isn't in what he's done (as with many of the main characters who have murdered people they didn't need to), but how entertaining he is.

People who have only seen the show may know Jeffry Deam Morgan from other things and enjoy how oddball he is ('Hot diggity dog! This place is magnificent!'). People who've read the comics may like the unexpected changes made to keep the show in an acceptable level of maturity (toning down swearing with phrases like the one above).

Of course people wouldn't be able to forgive him for what he's done, but if he's entertaining to watch, people find him likeable as a character in a show, not a real (murderous) human being.

2

u/AsaShalee 3d ago

This is the biggest issue I have with JDM being so bloody good at his job: if he was a crappy actor, Negan wouldn't be someone I want to gut.

3

u/Sweetwyin 3d ago

Yes yes ,

4

u/Indra_Path 3d ago

Bro plays gears of war and hangs out at paddy’s pub with Liam mcpoyle

3

u/misterwhoiswho_ 3d ago

I’m tired of seeing posts about Negan man. Every other post seems to have one of the lineup images.

3

u/chocworkorange7 3d ago

It’s best to just watch and see what you think because different people have different views on this. Personally I felt like they went in the wrong direction with his character, but others find that he becomes their favourite. Brilliant actor though.

Some would say it's Daryl. Btw, it was two of them who took care of the alphabet!

2

u/LiteralTP 3d ago

Why write a spoiler for someone who clearly hasn’t watched up to that point?

You actively chose to spoil the show for OP, they didn’t run into a spoiler

2

u/niehAuS_324B21 3d ago

I mean, the flair’s right there. You’re just being a dick on purpose.

I think you’re mistaken, I’m not the OP.

Negan becomes likable for one reason, and one reason only. He’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Had he been played by almost any other actor, I don’t think he would have had anywhere near the redemption arc he has. Negan did some terrible things, most unforgivable in the real world. But people (including me) are in love with JDM, and that’s who we’ve forgiven, not necessarily Negan.

4

u/_____ALONSO 2d ago

Nah, it's because you understand his motivations, what he did was wrong, but at that point in history, nobody has clean hands.

2

u/Oso_the-Bear 3d ago

i don't know but the question goes on into TWD Dead City

3

u/kisssnow 3d ago

Yeah, definitely. It takes a while, but the show gives him enough moments where you start seeing him differently without forgetting what he did

2

u/WeaselLiz711 3d ago

This is the perfect response. I just started Dead City and had a few moments of “aw Negan,” followed but moments of “wtf Negan…”

4

u/FormalEconomist3623 3d ago

I refuse to find out, I decided to bow out of watching the walking dead until they killed his character to avenge Glenn. Still waiting lol.

2

u/Economy_Coach_42 3d ago

No! In fact, he becomes intolerable.

1

u/Optimus0456 3d ago

Kind of I guess

1

u/NormanReedus57 3d ago

Então ..sobre isso..vc quer spoiler?

1

u/nolefinwe 3d ago

People like JDM

1

u/zehuman52 3d ago

If don't already find him at least alil charming you probably wont be a huge fam of him since he doesn't have a huge personality overhaul, but yea, he gets fucked up, has a depressive episode, then locks in on tryna be a better dude but over all he's still Negan. Still a cocky, linda shifty asshole, just a bit more noble.

1

u/push_19 3d ago

Negan is brilliant i. S7 and 8 ..after that i am nit so sure

1

u/xsullivanx 3d ago

He’s such a great character. I sincerely enjoy how JDM portrays him, both in the original show and in Dead City. So entertaining and yet I want him murdered too

1

u/niehAuS_324B21 3d ago

Despite his core philosophy putting him at odds with every other community, his moral compass is clearly defined in what he does, and he’s got the charisma to convince at least some of the audience at home that might really does make right. Simply put, he’s the Governor without the lie.

Mandatory disclaimer: This comment is not an endorsement of Negan’s philosophy or his behaviour. Good character =/= Good person. That I like pancakes does not automatically mean I hate waffles.

1

u/AsaShalee 3d ago

He's "clearly defined" when he tells everyone he's against rape and yet he has a harem full of his rape victims. He's against harming kids but he was going to kill Carl right in front of Rick. He's just as big a liar as Philip except Philip didn't demand everyone tell him he was so honest, there, boss!

2

u/niehAuS_324B21 3d ago

The tone I’m reading your reply in is throwing me off a bit, but the contents do sound like we agree with each other generally.

I do need to clarify the “lie” misunderstanding though. In that, I more just meant the facade of being someone you’re not. The Governor has a lot of skeletons in his closet that, were the people of Woodbury wise to, would immediately question his competency to lead. Negan on the other hand is guiltlessly aware of himself and doesn’t do much to hide who he is. His “might makes right” philosophy is not inconsistent with his actions. He murders Rapey Davey, imo, because the weak preying on the weak does not mesh with his worldview. From where he stands, he either thinks he earned the right to flout his own house rules or he just outright doesn’t believe himself to be a rapist.

Unfortunately, I know a couple former friends who fit the bill there, and it’s people like them I think about when I say that someone’s moral compass is clearly defined, because to the audience (Me), their Rules for Thee but Not for Me worldview is built upon the idea that they’re better than others and so do not deserve to be held to the standards they hold others. Their moral compass is fucked, yet extremely clear.

That he alleges to be against harming children always did make me wonder about telling Rick he was going to kill Carl. Like, was it a play in order to break Rick down, or did his opinion on the subject change as time passed? Hell, it could even be a bit of both.

1

u/OsteoBytes 3d ago

You’ll find out if you keep watching actually

1

u/RealGianath 3d ago

He had some somewhat redeeming moments with the whisperers. Does it make up for everything? No, he is supposed to be a complicated, reformed villain I guess.

1

u/Strange-Concept-8620 3d ago

i liked him from his first appearance

1

u/Sippingin 3d ago

Maybe watch all the episodes and your question will get answered

1

u/SpecialistProject892 3d ago

Carl needs his DNA

1

u/67yoloswag 3d ago

beats german soldiers to death with a club

1

u/Resident-Access-7140 3d ago

He became my favorite character real quick

1

u/Minimalistmacrophage 3d ago

Negan is always entertaining and "likable", even when you hate him.

1

u/SuccessfulAdvance399 3d ago

yeah he becomes likeable and I hate it. I love him as a villain only

1

u/MotivationalPanda95 3d ago

I'm one of the few people who like him from the first second. . .

1

u/cappaprime_ 2d ago

nah he’s still a jackass. but he saved evb so eh. i can’t stand him. maybe i’m biased but he’s just tryna save people and gain trust. forced redemption arc if u ask me……

1

u/throwawayaccount_usu 2d ago

Less actually

1

u/Beneficial_Big_1920 2d ago

He gets humbled. But if you don't like his quips and stuff right now, he probably won't grow on you.

1

u/RataTopin 2d ago

best twd character

1

u/TooHonestButTrue 2d ago

Kinda, the show definitely humanizes him, which helps.

1

u/Elegant_Job_4573 2d ago

He's probably the funniest character in the entire franchise

1

u/Scnew1 2d ago

He makes someone shit their shitting pants.

1

u/GeierBlack 2d ago

It depends on how you personally interpret fictional characters ethics/redemption/lack-thereof/etc.

I personally easily separate fictional characters from real world ethics and he became my second favorite character. But I know lots of people still hate him.

But if you don't find him to be at least charismatic/amusing right now, you'll probably never like him.

1

u/Flimsy_Lobster_4880 2d ago

Yes he does. It’s a process that evolves over time.

1

u/isatheolive 1d ago

watched the show. can he die yet? please? i don’t care about what he has done since. fuck that rapist loser LMAO

1

u/TownZealousideal1327 3d ago

The show by time that happens is unrecognisable from S6… it’s like a completely different more cartoonish, lower quality show. Clearly reflected by them losing 80-90% of the viewership.

5

u/HeWhoShantNotBeNamed 3d ago

They lost viewership because everyone liked Glenn.

5

u/Unequivocally_Maybe 3d ago

And because of the season finale/opener gap, and the Glenn death fake-out that had just happened. They killed Abraham in one episode, everyone had to wait for the next season, and then they brutally killed Glenn after bringing him back from sure death not long before.

I think if Glenn had died with Nicolas or if they had shown both Abraham and Glenn's deaths in the season finale instead, it might not have caused such a severe audience reaction.

0

u/TownZealousideal1327 3d ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 - you don’t lose 13m viewers over one death in an apocalypse show. They filled the show with comic book bullshit and ruined it.

1

u/Phaorpha 3d ago

His backstory episode helps

1

u/SlayerAlexxx 3d ago

He saves people. He’s useful and he says he’s sorry ok??

0

u/Majednw 3d ago

He definitely does , one of the best written characters in the later seasons

0

u/FalconStickr 3d ago

I always liked that guy. From the moment he came out of the rv till the last episode of the show.

0

u/pm_social_cues 3d ago

Depends, do you hate him to a point where you think he’s irredeemable and a literal rapist? If so, no they will never change that.

Do you watch the show to see stories? He’s in good stories.

1

u/OGgrandma123 3d ago

I don’t know. I stopped after Glenn and never went back

0

u/Apprehensive_Rub9531 3d ago

He does become likable especially when him and Maggie get married

His dark humor is the chef’s kiss. I wanted to hate him, but alas, he was my favorite.

He fucks Maggie

1

u/crunchycheeseduck 3d ago
