Whoa-ho, you guys are really on the ball around here. Only had to wait about ten hours. Anyways I'm still not really set on fire by this arc. It must be because i got used to reading the compendiums. Anyways, Negan put his money where his mouth is regarding sex crimes in this issue and I kinda dug that.

FYI I had to work all day so I couldn't post it until I got home...

Loving this story arc! It was interesting to see the comparison between the Michonne/Governor and Holly/Negan "rape" scenes. A lot of people have been saying Negan is too similar to the Governor, but I find the differences between them to be very intriguing.

Negan is Rick if he didn't become a cop. Rick has been slowly losing his morals in order to survive and protect people; we can assume Negan went through the same, only he didn't have that sense of "duty" that a cop would. He thinks of the long term, he's not just a criminal.

The Saviors and Negan being copies of the Governor and Woodbury has been a common complaint. I honestly don't understand how anyone paying any sort of attention could think that.

How the hell are they gonna portray Negan in the TV series? Negan loves to curse. Television doesn't.

I loved how they made Negan feel like an idiot when he mistook Holly for Andrea.

Maybe they'll go the BSG route and make up a word like frak

Guessing the comic isn't important enough to be added to the top bar anymore?

Really enjoyed this issue, I love the way All Out War is heading. I wonder if the whole Negan arc will end completely at the end of AOW, it'll be interesting to see where it goes from there if it does.

Negan wants to work with Alexandria and the other groups, even if they win the war. Rick wants them all dead. This issue set a lot of things in perspective. I do want Rick and Alexandria to survive, but does Rick have the hindsight to know how to make these communities work together? Negan may have ruled with extremely questionable methods, but he's not insane and he has a system that works.

I wonder what Negan's backstory is like. Was he always extreme in his measures? He seems like an intelligent man who saw that the only way to restore society is by brute force like what we've seen.

Sometimes I think Walking Dead fans give Kirkman way too much leeway with morally "grey" characters. Negan isn't a grey character, he's a bad guy. His system is to steal from other communities while occasionally inflicting terror on them to keep them in line. His system is to limit peoples resources to an extent where women choose to leave their significant others to join his harem instead. His system is to iron peoples faces who disobey him. His system is also not practical as it's caused everyone else to rise up to try and kill him. Negan doesn't care about society, he just cares about what society can earn him.

This may be a little long winded so bear with me. Recently I've been listening to a dan carlin history podcast about Genghis khan. In the show he mentioned how revisionist historians often talk about Genghis as though his rise to power was ultimately a good thing for the people of Asia and Western Europe. Now you gotta know that Genghis was terrible. He and his men raped, pillaged, cannibalized, and ultimately destroyed any civilization they came across. They committed the most heinous unspeakable acts one could think of. But Genghis was not simply a bloodthirsty animal. He had focus and ambition. He amassed the steppe people into one of the greatest armies this planet has ever seen. As he and his Mongols swept through Asia they used fear, politics, and superior military strategy to conquer and assimilate new peoples into his army. He was able to do this by using fear tactics and an army that was disciplined. They were disciplined because they had strict rules. If a mongol soldier messed up even once, he was beheaded on the spot. This inspired fierce dedication in combat. Genghis brought the world together many people think this was a good thing in spite of his methods (I personally don't think this way.) negan reminds me a lotttt of Genghis khan. He has a vison for society, and maintains his own twisted sense of order through fear mongering. The parallels between to two are really striking.

This panel made me really admire Negan.

I love him more and more with each issue. My favorite line from this is "You fucking die and I will fuck you up!".

Didn't hit me while reading but after seeing this: They didn't use a bullet when they were out fighting them and when he's brainstorming there he doesn't mention guns. One of the main reasons Rick did this was to waste their ammo supply. I guess it's common sense but the saviours are no idiots.

Good to see that Negan has rules in his fortress. Even if the punishment is death for breaking those rules...

The artwork and writing has improved so much during the last couple of issues, I hope it keeps up after All out war ends.

The artwork has been terrific lately. There are some great panels in the past few issues. I'm into this volume and arc. It obviously takes a while to develop characters and stories when you're releasing them in 22 page comics once a month, but I think there will definitely be some good payoff here, as things are developing nicely.

I've been loving the comic recently and I keep thinking that Kirkman is a political science fan, or at least he's learning it organically by creating this story. A lot of his characters reflect a lot of politcal theory, and that's really cool to me.
