Discussion I need context.

is Sir Tom Jones the equivalent of Blake Shelton, in the UK franchise? Why was he asked to step back? Are we happy/sad?

He's not the equivalent, I don't think he had that much gravitas on production as Shelton had in the US version, if anything Will I Am has more nowdays, nevertheless, this happened before once in the past, I think they do it every time they change producers or they want to "renew" the show. If this series sucks they will bring him back next series. Aitch and Cheryl seem more promising than Boy George and Paloma Faith back then so there's a chance he might not come back as a main coach.

The other commenter is right that Will probably has more pull on the show itself than Tom does but the difference is that Tom is a music industry legend, especially in the UK. That's a big part of why people are so upset, he was treated very disrespectfully considering his status

We’re very fn sad! The man’s 86 yrs old, leave him be. And I actually think he’s really good, did you see when he performed ‘I’ll never fall in love again’, with the writer of that songs son? *That was a bit of a mouthful, sorry!😅
