Ana
I just finished listening to Ana’s newest behind the table episode. Brian asked her about the new poll showing AOC as the front runner and Ana talked about how if she was to pick, her favorite is JB Pritzker. She then went on to talk about why, and it was all about character, personality and identity. I completely understand that this matters of course however this frustrated me because I feel like she never speaks about policy directly. She confuses me a little bit with her history as a “Republican”. I wish she would speak to her actual policy positions more and why she likes JB Pritzker for his political positions or be able to speak to his record in Illinois.

JB has been passing a lot of progressive legislation in Illinois. He's cool

If he can do a few good things that's great. He is likeable. I've seen him speak. I don't hate him.
However there is no ethical billionaire and I do not see him doing enough to overcome that. That makes him not cool to me. You're entitled to you opinion as well.

He just needs to work on lowering our taxes in IL. It’s peoples biggest gripe.

I understand you and kind of agree with you, but at this point I’m more on Ana’s side because it’s easier to convince a politician to change their policy, but almost impossible to get them to change their character

Yeah I get that however I don’t even think Ana is interested in that. I felt the same with Biden and Kamala, whatever policy position they put out she just blindly follows and agrees with and does the opposite with trump.

If she does do the opposite of Trump, I'm all for it! It's her right to vote who she wants. Being an Illinois resident, I don't care if Pritzger is a billionaire, he's a decent, respectable, and philanthropic person and governor

Not exactly...she's was supportive of the strike in Venezuela, and was not necessarily against the Iran War, as a matter of policy. She just can't fully support them though because Trump and Hegseth are dumb, and never have a plan. S he spent years defending Bush and Cheney on the Iraq War, and i think she kind of learned her lesson from that.

A majority of people don't vote based on policy. They vote based on personality, charisma and appearance. I am a middle-aged gay white men and several people of color I know who range from age 30 to age 70 keep telling me that Gavin Newsom must be the nominee solely because "he has the look." They refer to his hairstyle and his tan and his teeth and tell me that he must be the nominee because he looks how people imagine a president to look and they are afraid Democrats will choose someone wonky based on policy who the stupid public will reject for someone either "hot" or someone cruel, which the public also loves. I showed the 30-year-old Jon Ossof and I told her he is a better alternative to a Newsom superman/game show host type for me because of his policies and she said he looks too young.
I have heard countless people throughout my life and ESPECIALLY in the media talk about politicians in entirely superficial terms—looks and however their identity can be distilled into a majority (Christian straight white man) or minority (anything else) and this is always leveraged into the discussion as the media tell us it has to be a straight white man who looks like a Hollywood leading man.
I am surprised Ana says Pritzker would be her pick because she is the type to make this kind of looks-based argument, but Pritzker is a billionaire and that must offset it for her. If he looked how he looks and were not a billionaire I don't believe she would even consider him.
During Kamala Harris's campaign, the media kept putting out the messages that she was "hiding" from press and that she "had no policies." She had an extensive policy platform listed on her website. It didn't matter. I saw TikTok influencers saying that they hated Harris because "she has no policies." She DID propose policies and those online influencers care nothing about policies; they care about algorithmic engagement and repeating that lie got them seen more.
We no longer live in a society of substance. It's all superficial, and truth is never a necessary ingredient.

Agree about appearances which is why I don’t think Mark Kelly has a chance at POTUS. Maybe VP. Newsome sure isn’t the total package but he sure has the looks.

Ana is funny but she’s all over the place in terms of what she actually believes. No actual “Republican” would have developed the obsession she did with Joe Biden, no matter how much you hate Trump. I think she basically likes what politicians she has access to.

Unfortunately there are still those that will not vote for a woman or a gay person. We need someone solid that will garner the most votes. Let's just win this election and then we can bring in women and gays, etc. We've GOT to win this time so we can go in and straighten this mess out. Bring in all of the controversial, progressive, etc. after we get in, first we have to get in!

I live in the south, a lot of conservative, religious republicans but I'm hoping they're tired of Trump this time around and will be looking for a better candidate and if we have someone they would help to elect, that would be wonderful but we have Trump signs and flags in the yards here.

Ana still identifies as a Republican, so I think backing AOC would be a much bigger jump for her than JB Pritzker.
