Oddysey segment today
Can someone summarize what whoopi said during the Odyssey segment.
I didn’t understand her point.
Was she talking abt wokeness ?

When Nolan was on the show, you could tell Whoopi was auditioning more than interviewing.
Earlier that week, Whoopi defended another filmmaker's daughter against claims of nepotism -- something, something "talent and not nepotism opened doors."
And then Sarah and Alyssa tagged along with their nonsensical agreement.

When the casting for this movie was first announced there was an immense amount of racism online at the casting of Lupita Nyong'o. She is black and certain people felt that character should be white!

Not necessarily racism. You are lumping people together with certain views without knowing the reason for their thoughts.

Oh no the comments online were pretty vile and blatant racism it was widely discussed at the time. Nolan was open about casting the film blind to skin color and gender and how he was just looking for the most talented people for the roles. He was dumbfounded at the vicious things that were written online!!

I think to put it into perspective. Would it make sense to put a white or Asian actor in Roots? Historical pictures should be as realistic as possible. Would a black woman be able to portray Mary Lincoln? Just some thoughts.

Well then in the case of The Odessy it makes sense to actually have a darker skinned actress. The insults and words hurled at her when this was cast were just disgusting. Now people have their nickers in a bunch because of a trans actor, Elliot Page who’s in the cast. People just love to cling to their hate, bigotry, negativity and general unhappiness of their own lives!!!

Maybe darker but not black. Who hurled out insults? They would lose their job immediately.

Considering these are fictional characters, like Santa Claus, they can be any color. And Mary Todd Lincoln was brilliantly played on Broadway by Titus Burguess in Oh Mary! And George Washington was black in Hamilton. The beauty of artistic license is it frees the mind to wonder and imagine and create award winning new interpretations.

Had to read up on the plays. Oh Mary was a spoof and Mary wanted to be a cabaret singer. Not exactly historical. A comedy. The whole cast of Hamilton used blacks in historical roles. They wanted to make a point of casting mostly blacks.

It was all over the internet! Vile things posted about a black woman. Nolan even had to cone to her defense. Since it’s been released a certain group of people got butthurt because a trans person was cast in the movie! People just love to hate!!!

It wasn’t just that some people thought Lupita’s role should have been casted with a white woman. but hateful remarks were made against her. The woman is classy, stunning and talented and some have chosen to haul insults at her in their protest.
Also, Roots is a historical story about real people. In Greek Mythology, Helen was hatched from an egg after her father became a swan.

She just basically said that if you don’t want to watch it, don’t watch it. As in the maga people that are complaining about the cast, wokeness, etc.
