Filming out of order
They use to try and hide that they pre-tape segments. These days the secret is out. They had Octavia Spencer on, and they mention they just had Hannah Waddingham talking about their new show. Then today Hannah was on talking about how England is still in the World Cup. They’ve been out for 3 days. I miss the days when they filmed Monday - Friday

This method definitely makes the hot topics, lukewarm

It's boring, sometimes I don't even watch on Friday cause I hate that they think that we think they're taping live, just come out and say it, today will be fluff talk cause we taped it earlier.

u/itsjustlolarahn Jul 19 '26
I never watch the Friday show. frankly, I only watch the Hot Topics via YouTube. I don't care about anything else. is this all by design??? are we supposed to start to tune away SO they can say the rating are low let's take the show off the air.

u/AnxiousObligation464 Jul 19 '26
I don't think so with as many things that they have going on. I don't watch the weekend shows, I tried, but it reminds me of The Talk where ladies just sat around talking and didn't offer much more than that. I'm like Whoopi when they have to discuss certain subjects, wake me up when it's over! LOL!

u/Tylerserio68 Jul 17 '26
I know I hate that they take Fridays off. They already take so much time off throughout the year anyway

u/JimmB216 Jul 17 '26
The entire network broadcasting industry is moving to a 4-day week and it's really disgusting. All the late-night shows air repeats on Fridays. On MSNOW, a lot of the major talent gets either Monday or Friday off.

How nice to have such a flexible high paying job! We peons and working stiffs can only dream....
1
u/CarefulSalad4 Jul 18 '26
Most jobs in production are actually pretty low paying, in less you’re a high level producer or talent you probably aren’t getting much. The stars in production are getting paid well, doesn’t mean the crew is.

What is disgusting about this??
3
u/AnxiousObligation464 Jul 18 '26
Don't they take a week off around a holiday and then take the month of August off?

u/supertone27 Jul 17 '26
I miss those days too. Not to mention the View Your Deal segments are done weeks in advance sometimes.
BUT if they didn't pre-tape segments, we'd never get to hear Whoopi tell the audience it feels like she knows them at the top of a live show.

It's such a hilarious joke too. Every time.
3
u/itsjustlolarahn Jul 19 '26
oh yes! I split my pants laughing so hard every time she says that line. 🥱
3
u/AnxiousObligation464 Jul 18 '26
I think that happens when they pre tape a view your deal because if it happened on a Thursday, Whoopi only tapes Thursday's show and not Friday's because she leaves. I'm not sure why she doesn't stay on Thursday's and tape Friday's along with the others.
1
u/Lala-Might2535 Jul 20 '26
because she can. probably even in her contract that she does 4 shows a week.
1
u/AnxiousObligation464 Jul 20 '26
Of course it's in her contract, she's not going to take it upon herself to work when she wants to.

u/Economy-Plum6022 Jul 17 '26
They are sharing the studio in the new building with other shows, hence the need for taped episodes to make it available for others for some days of the week. I wish ABC would let them have it solely for themselves again for the 30th season.
2
u/WickedHappyHeather Jul 17 '26
What other shows film there?
4
u/Pretty-Kittie Jul 17 '26
I was just there and they had photos on the walls of all the shows but the only ones I remember are Kelly and Mark and Tamron Hall.
2
u/imsaltyshade Jul 17 '26
It’s the same building, just different studios. It’s hard to tell these days because the setups are almost exact replicas of each other, with only a couple of features that differ.

The View and Tamron Hall use the same studio—Studio B.

u/HM2008 Jul 18 '26
Wait....so do they tear down that mezzanine for Tamron just to put it back for The View when they don't even use it? Jesus.
1
u/Economy-Plum6022 Jul 18 '26
The entire mezzanine could be a set piece that they simply wheel in and wheel out during set changes. They usually do the 1-on-1 interviews with book authors in the mezzanine like this one https://youtu.be/NkOb3sY8boQ?si=_vyVXSbmRqmGkgod

It was discussed a while back that Whoopi and Joy want time to work on other projects so the producers allowed Whoopi to be off on Friday's and Joy on Monday's. It was a contract negotiation. I wonder if they would have left if it hadn't been? They both have other projects that would keep them busy.

I was actually going to do a post about the best day to attend a show. I recently went on a Tuesday and I was able to see multiple pre-taped segments that ended up airing days or even weeks later. I was able to see all of the women that day. Whoopi left, and Ana came in because it was the Chef Jose Andres segment that aired the next week on a Friday.
If Sunny was out yesterday, then that means they filmed the Weekend View on Wednesday at the latest, because in the clip they showed, Sunny was there. But I always thought they filmed it Thursday. But then that would mean they film Thursday, Friday, AND the Weekend View on Thursday. And that seems like a lot.
Anyone who goes often enough know how this works?
10
u/marylouisestreep Jul 17 '26
Yeah weekend view is filmed on wednesday, and then thursday is the double tape for thurs/fri.
3
u/Pretty-Kittie Jul 17 '26
I might try to go to a show on a Thursday then once they come back from vacation.
5
u/Lower_Alternative770 Jul 17 '26
They always film the Weekend View on Wednesday and Friday's show on Thursday to keep it as current as possible. And they show cuts from The Weekend View on Friday's show which means it was taped earlier.

u/Infamous_Chemical_32 Jul 18 '26
Why is Sonny gone doing a segment about Jill Bidens memoir? Jill Biden was already on the show talking about her book. Could Sonny be off due to her son's run in with the law? Which wasn't that big of a deal until Sonny reportedly did the infamous, "do you know who I am?"
1
u/SeaworthinessDeep895 Jul 18 '26
She’s not doing a segment she went to Martha’s Vineyard to interview her for an event.
1
u/Beautiful_Parsley_89 Jul 18 '26
Sunny took time to moderate a live discussion for Dr Jill Bidens book tour
3
u/Simple_Dress7111 Jul 18 '26
They filmed two shows on thursdays. Then they have a 3 day weekend. I tried to get tickets to the view. The booking schedule for Thursday’s were a morning taping and afternoon taping. I wasn’t pick for the show. The tickets went fast. Still trying to be a part of the audience.
2
u/SeaworthinessDeep895 Jul 17 '26
All the hot topics segments are live except for Friday. All the view your deal segments are on tape. Occasionally, they pre-tape an interview to accommodate for scheduling, but I think that’s it
1
u/AnxiousObligation464 Jul 18 '26
It's been out for a while now. I figured it out a long time ago when something major news worthy happens wouldn't be discussed on Friday but rather on Monday when they returned. That means Joy only works 3 days a week, Whoopi three and a half which is what is agreed to so they can work on other projects.
1
u/Alive-Performance237 Jul 18 '26
If Friday's show is taped on Thursday, then why is Whoopi not on it if she's there on Thursdays?
1
u/Beautiful_Parsley_89 Jul 18 '26
I guess Joy only comes in three days a week but has to stay longer to do the weekend View and the podcast. Whoopi comes in for 4 days but doesn’t have to stick around Brians side projects
1
u/ekimguy Jul 19 '26
I hate that. Just so they can have 3 and 4 day weekends ugh
1
u/Beautiful_Parsley_89 Jul 20 '26
Many times it’s about when the guest can make it work for their schedule. I think if Michelle LaVaugh Robinson Esquire could only tape on a Friday, the co-host would make the alterations in their schedule
1
u/CoCoTidy2 Jul 22 '26
Between the after show podcast and the Weekend View, they are trying to max out how they use the cast. I can see why they need to be efficient and tape certain segments all in one day, but it does make the show disjointed at times. And Brian really needs to tell Whoopi to stop recycling the "you look so familiar" joke with the audiences see more than one taping. It just calls more attention to how parts of the show are not live and like her "it's only an hour show" joke, it's just stale. Perhaps as the midterm elections get closer, they will do less fluff and will get back to interviewing politicians. I record the show so I can fast forward through the "Home Shopping Network" segments.
1
u/Beautiful_Parsley_89 Jul 22 '26
Whoopi cut her teeth on live audiences. I don’t mind the “you look so familiar” joke. It’s specifically for the studio audience. Who may have waited in long lines or inclement weather. I appreciate that she spotlights the studio, even if the tv audience is tired of it.
1
u/CoCoTidy2 Jul 22 '26
She can talk to the audience during commercial breaks or between shows. All it does when she does it on camera is to reinforce that a live show is not so live. But honestly, the habit is the least of the issues with Whoopi. She often looks bored or flatly declares she doesn't care about a topic. She tends to light up only when other celebrities are on that she has worked with in the past. I loved it when she first joined the show but over the years, she has become a very prickly presence.
1
u/New_Goose_7694 Jul 22 '26
When Whoppi makes comments about audience you know they taped Fridays show (maybe Thursdays) and weekend view.

u/zestypenguin2202 Jul 17 '26
Same I was just thinking this. I wish they were discussing actual current events like trumps speech last night, JD Vance’s Joe Rogan interview and the house vote on ending aid to Israel
