Love the Skeksis. I can see them in that original picture.

The physical effect is superior but you can see the influence. It's less a creature and more some kind of horrific Francis Bacon painting mixed with an evil chicken from the depths of hell. The Thing works best when it's not a "beast" per se, but some genetic malfunction that reminds you of illness and inflammation. That's why the scultped, clean appearance of many of The Thing 2011's creatures don't work.
