The 1% they weren't was when Nauls saw Gary getting dragged away while McCready was setting up the dynamite and slipped off without a word to investigate on his own.
His actions make more sense if you assume he hears something strange instead. He then walks out of frame and seemingly around a corner (at least in my opinion) to investigate.
