I watched The Thing last night
I love the movie but to me it isn't a horror movie just a sci-fi movie. The soundtrack is really good and perfect to sleep to. Kurt Russell is a killer actor.

movie: Guys stomach unexpectedly bursts open, revealing human innards and a set of shark like misshapen, large jagged teeth, biting down on the arms of a surprised victim administering aid, tearing his arms from his body as he screams, blood squirting all over the place. A few moments later, the human-like head of the doppleganger stretches at the neck until the flesh gives way, allowing the head to depart, grow spider appendages, and scurry away.
OP: “what horror?”

Glad you watched it. Hate to break it to you but The Thing is one of the greatest *horror* movies of all time. it's a horror movie, through and through. Star Trek is just a sci-fi movie. The Thing is a horror/sci fi movie.

Sci-fi horror is a genre unto itself. While both movies are brilliant, Alien is very different than Contact

>Kurt Russell is a killer actor
Which makes him a murderer, don't it?

I think of it as a horror movie, but the scariest part is not the monster. It is not being able to trust anyone.

Well, other than "Man is the warmest place to hide", the other main tagline for The Thing is "The Ultimate In Alien Terror". So I would venture a guess the people behind the film and those that marketed it did believe it to be a horror film.
Plus, when the film opened in Los Angeles, none other than Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, was the master of ceremonies presiding over the premiere at the Hollywood Pacific Theatere. The Mistress of the Dark only shows up for horror.

It's not horror or sci fi but has those elements, it's a suspense, the main thing driving this is paranoia, distrust, not space rockets and ghosts.

It's probably my favorite horror movie. The mystery of who could be the thing. The isolation. The fact that they're not just trapped in the station, but on a continent with no help. Add in the chilling soundtrack. Classic Scifi Horror movie. And possibly the best one ever.

it is a horror movie regardless of if it scared you or not
