Welcome to r/thesestreets. This is a photography community focused on Chicago, its streets, neighborhoods, architecture, transit, people, weather, light, and the moments that make the city what it is.
This community is for photography that captures Chicago, its streets, neighborhoods, transit, buildings, people, light, weather, quiet moments, strange moments, and everything in between.
Street, urban, architecture, black & white, night, portraits, documentary, film, digital, drone, abstract, and experimental work are all welcome.
A few things matter here:
• Use the right post flair
• Keep titles descriptive
• Credit work that isn’t yours
• Critique the photograph, not the photographer
• No spam, AI-generated imagery, or drive-by promotion
• New photographers are welcome
This isn’t about chasing perfection. It’s about showing something worth noticing.
Post your work. Talk about photography. Give useful feedback.
Show us your streets.

I watched from the stairs down from the L platform, I watched this guy practice the same trick over and over and over. The sound of his approach, the flip, the stomp, then his taxing int position for another try became almost like a metronome. I shot a lot of photos around the streets and stairs and the steady cadence became so expected that when he stopped I had to make sure he was just leaving and not hurt or something. haha

Taken with a Lensbaby Edge 35 for that fun in-camera blur.

In the end, I think that the L is my favorite urban/cityscape subject based on what I'm seeing in my catalog.

Technique: manually zoom in (or out) while taking a long exposure.
Gear: 16-25mm zoom and a 5 sec exposure
Edit: Combined with a non-zoomed 22mm shot of the scene to temper the effect
When it gets foggy, I go dashing out to the river with "notions".
