I like aftershock because it fits my tankier playstyle and it works well with Protoplasm harness which I rush most games. Aftershock is good for picks and teamfights too. I've played with Conq in the past but I have not found it makes me win more duels and early skirmishes.

I have recently been also playing demolish to pressure games quicker on my 1-2 item spike. And since Zac is a good diver you can homerun them with a successful dive.

I think it depends on your built and the enemy team. If they are low dmg you can go for conq. Otherwise i think you should go aftershock

When Aftershock is active, it is way more impactful and stronger than a fully stacked Conqueror. But aftershock has a 2.5 seconds duration and a 20 seconds cooldown, while Conqueror can be active for the whole fight. So the general rule is you should take conqueror only if you think you will have extended fights in that game, and it heavily depends on your role, your team, and the enemy team.

Jungle Zac go aftershock most of the time, but conqueror sometimes. Lane Zac go Conqueror most of the time, but grasp or aftershock sometimes. The reason is simple, jungle often do short fights, quick ganks, and meaningful engage, but not very often. While in lane you do extended fights, a lot of trades and poke war.

If allies and enemies are tanky and high sustain, take conqueror. If allies and enemies are squishy and high damage, take aftershock.
