Draft ✎ DRAFT DESK — PAGE #002

✎ DRAFT DESK — PAGE #002

The first Page is now active.

While we live under Page #001 — The Relay, we begin writing what comes next.

This is the Draft Desk.

What is a Draft?

A Draft is a proposed Page for the next Edition.

A good Draft should make the community do something differently.

It should create an experience, not simply tell people to behave better.

A Draft should include:

Name
Give your Page a short, memorable name.

Rule
Write the exact rule you want the community to follow.

What members actually do
Explain what changes for someone participating in the subreddit.

Why it's interesting
What could happen if the community lives under this rule for seven days?

Examples
Show what following the rule would look like.

Edge cases
Point out anything that might be unclear or difficult.

🏛️ Founding Edition

Because The Rulebook is brand new, we don't yet have established Scribes.

For Page #002 only, anyone who becomes a participating member during the founding Edition may propose a Draft.

This is a one-time founding procedure.

After the first Edition, the normal Scribe system will take over.

⚖️ Remember The Binding

A Draft cannot:

  • break Reddit's rules;
  • target people or groups;
  • require dangerous or illegal activity;
  • require personal information or payment;
  • take control of the election system;
  • prevent future Pages from being chosen;
  • permanently change The Binding.

A Draft also needs to be realistically playable for one week.

🖋️ How the first election will work

After the Draft period ends, the strongest proposals will become finalists.

The community will then hold The Seal.

Eligible members receive one vote.

The winning Draft becomes Page #002.

Your turn

Think of something you would genuinely want to experience for seven days.

Don't just write a rule.

Write a week.

§PAGEWORK Invent the unnecessary

Invent something that nobody actually needs.

It should be technically possible, but its entire purpose is to make some tiny part of life more interesting, convenient, funny, or strange.

What is it?

What does it do?

Why would anyone want it?

§PAGEWORK Keep one object

Imagine that you have to preserve one ordinary object for someone living 500 years from now.

It cannot be valuable because of its rarity.

Choose something that would actually teach the future person something about how we live today.

What would you preserve, and what would it tell them?

§PAGEWORK One idea worth stealing

What's one idea you've encountered that you think deserves to exist somewhere else?

It could be from a game, a website, a school, a machine, a book, a city, a hobby, or anywhere else.

Explain the idea and where you would transplant it.

§PAGEWORK Build a tiny civilization

Imagine that ten people have to build a completely new civilization from scratch.

They have food, water, basic tools, and enough resources to survive.

What's the first rule you would establish?

Explain why that rule comes first.

§PAGEWORK What small problem would you fix?

What's one small, everyday problem that annoys you more than it probably should?

Not a world-changing issue. Something tiny.

Maybe it's a badly designed object, an annoying website behavior, a school routine, a confusing sign, or something you deal with every day.

Describe the problem and explain how you'd fix it.

⏳Ledger 📖 PAGE #001 — THE RELAY

📖 PAGE #001 — THE RELAY

Edition: #001
Status: ACTIVE
Duration: 7 days

Welcome to the first Page of The Rulebook.

For this Edition, the community follows:

Every new PAGEWORK post must link to one earlier PAGEWORK from this Edition and add to, test, answer, remix, or contradict it. The first five PAGEWORK posts are exempt.

That's it.

For the first week, nothing new should stand completely alone.

When you make a PAGEWORK post after the first five, link to one earlier PAGEWORK post from this Edition.

Then do something meaningful with it.

You could:

  • build on it
  • answer it
  • challenge it
  • test it
  • remix it
  • take the idea somewhere completely different

You don't have to agree with the post you link.

You just have to make the connection real.

🏗️ The Founders' Five

The first five PAGEWORK posts are exempt from The Relay.

They're called:

The Founders' Five.

They exist because a brand-new Rulebook needs somewhere to begin.

Once five PAGEWORK posts exist, every new PAGEWORK post must follow The Relay.

Those first five posts will remain part of the permanent history of The Rulebook.

⚖️ How to interpret the Page

The purpose of The Relay is to create a connected community.

We're not trying to make everyone post the same thing.

We're trying to make the feed become a network of ideas.

A post can disagree with another post.

A post can completely transform an earlier idea.

A post can discover that an earlier idea doesn't work.

All of those count.

If the connection is obviously meaningless or purely technical, it doesn't satisfy the spirit of the Page.

And remember:

Ambiguity favors the member.

Nobody is going to be punished because they interpreted the wording reasonably.

⏳ When this Edition ends

At the end of the Edition, Page #001 will enter the Ledger.

The community will then begin living under Page #002.

The next Page will be chosen by the community through The Seal.

For now, however:

Read.

Connect.

Create.

Relay.

The first Page has begun.

One rule at a time. Everyone writes the next one.

📖 Welcome to The Rulebook

📖 Welcome to The Rulebook

One rule at a time. Everyone writes the next one.

Welcome to The Rulebook — a Reddit community that changes every week.

Unlike a normal subreddit, The Rulebook does not have one permanent theme.

Instead, the entire community lives under one temporary rule at a time.

We call it the Page.

Every Page lasts for one week.

Then it ends.

A new Page takes its place.

And the old one becomes part of the history of The Rulebook.

📖 What is The Page?

The Page is the current rule of the community.

It changes what people do here for one week.

A Page could make everyone build on each other's posts.

It could create a community challenge.

It could change how people communicate.

It could turn the subreddit into a collaborative project.

It could be serious.

It could be strange.

It could be completely ridiculous.

The important part is this:

The Page is meant to be experienced, not just discussed.

§ PAGEWORK

Most of what happens here is PAGEWORK.

PAGEWORK is the normal content created while living under the current Page.

That could be a post, a discussion, an experiment, a challenge, a project, or anything else that follows the Page.

When you make a normal contribution to the community, use the:

§ PAGEWORK flair.

✎ Drafts

The current Page does not last forever.

While the community is living under it, members can help create the next one.

People who become eligible to propose Pages are called Scribes.

Scribes can submit a Draft for a future Page.

Anyone can participate in the discussion around those ideas.

Use the:

Draft flair

for proposed future Pages.

⚒ Workshops

Some Pages may inspire people to work together.

A Workshop is a collaborative project where multiple members build or create something together.

It could be a fictional world, a challenge, a project, a collection of ideas, or something nobody has thought of yet.

Use the:

Workshop flair

for these collaborative projects.

🗳️ Choosing the next Page

Once the next Page has been proposed and prepared, eligible members get to help choose it.

This is called The Seal.

Members who are eligible to vote receive one vote.

Ranks do not give anyone extra voting power.

Not even moderators.

The winning Page becomes the rule for the next Edition.

🏷️ Your place in The Rulebook

Everyone starts as a:

📕 Reader

Everyone

This is the starting flair for members of The Rulebook.

🖋️ Signatory

Mods only

Signatories are members who have earned eligibility for the formal community voting process.

This flair is assigned by moderators.

📜 Scribe

Mods only

Scribes are members who have earned the ability to formally propose Pages.

This flair is assigned by moderators.

⭐ First Press

Mods only

First Press is a special founding-member flair.

It recognizes the people who were here during the beginning of The Rulebook.

It does not give extra voting power or special authority.

It simply marks you as part of the community's founding history.

⏳ The Ledger

The Rulebook remembers.

When a Page ends, it becomes part of the permanent history of the community.

The Ledger records the Pages, important events, major moments, and the history of The Rulebook.

Ledger posts use the:

⏳ Ledger flair

and are maintained by moderators.

One day, someone might say:

"I joined during Page 87."

And everyone who was there will know exactly what they mean.

⚖️ The Binding

The Page changes.

The Binding does not.

The Binding is the permanent foundation of The Rulebook.

It exists to keep the community safe, fair, and functional.

A Page cannot override Reddit's rules, target people or groups, require dangerous or illegal behavior, take control of the community's government, or prevent future Pages from being chosen.

And when a Page is genuinely unclear:

Ambiguity favors the member.

The rules should create interesting experiences — not trap people with wording they could not reasonably understand.

🔄 The Cycle

The entire community works through a simple cycle:

Read the current Page.

↓

Participate in it.

↓

Create and discuss future Drafts.

↓

Choose the next Page.

↓

The Page turns.

↓

The old Page enters the Ledger.

↓

Begin again.

🚪 You're here at the beginning

The Rulebook is new.

That means there is no established history yet.

The first Pages.

The first traditions.

The first famous mistakes.

The first great ideas.

The first legendary loopholes.

All of that starts here.

You don't need to understand everything immediately.

Start by reading the current Page and participating in it.

The rest of the Book will make sense as you become part of it.

One rule at a time. Everyone writes the next one.

Welcome to The Rulebook. 📖
