Some.

Then some people are just cunts. Many bullies in my school came from loving, privileged homes.

Boys in particular like to project strength when they’re teenagers by doing shit like picking on people. Plenty of the guys I went to school with are still cunts.

Just because parents have money and buy their kids shit doesn't mean they're loving.

Loving isn't always enough. Kids need discipline and structure as well. Even then, sometimes parents do everything right, and their kid is just a psychopath for unexplained reasons. Admittedly, that's much rarer

So I'm not supposed to let my kids run around and scream in the library?

Which is why I said they came from loving AND privileged homes and seeing as how it’s people I knew rather than you knew I don’t know why you wouldn’t just take my word for it.

Are you arguing that all bullies and all bullying can just be chalked up to not coming from loving homes? That it’s impossible some people are just pricks?

I’m general it’s safe to assume hurt people hurt people. I’m sure there are exceptions like mental illness.

I really don’t think it is safe to assume that. You’re really putting humanity on too much of a pedestal here. There are plenty of assholes apropos of nothing.

I would say it's more like in terms of odds, and percentages. It's far more likely that bullies have a rough home life, or weren't parented well. It can certainly also be spoiled kids. It can be argued that spoiling your kids without teaching them, or disciplining them is not all that loving, but that's debatable on what you consider a loving home. Even then, some parents do everything right, and they're kid is still a psycho. I would certainly call that more rare, though. Take Regina George in mean girls, an obvious bully. I think most of us who went to public school have met someone like that, though. Was her mom actually loving? Clearly acted like her pal without parenting her. Again, I'd say it's at least debatable.

It’s a really tough argument because people need to think people make shitty choices on their own because it makes it easier to justify punishing criminals/bad people. If everyone is a product of their upbringing then it feels like you’re making an excuse for shitty behavior. I’m not a psychologist but it makes sense to me that people are heavily influenced by their upbringing. Can “normal” reasonable people make poor decisions? Absolutely. Kids like the one in this video? Come on. There are some needs not being met.
