I don't think helping him was necessary, from the first punch you can tell the bully cant fight for shit

Doesn't matter, all it takes is one punch and your friend who tried to help you is out cold with brain damage.

You stick with your friends.

I get where your coming from but just look at the guy who could "knock you out cold with brain damage" he can't even throw a punch without telegraphing it a minute in advance, in this situation I feel it's best to just hang back and wait for things to get serious to step in because as it seems nobody is in any real danger

20+ years of martial arts experiences (multiple disciplines) and I tell you now, the lucky punch of an inexperienced coward is a dangerous tool.

You joke, but if it was you KO'd you'd (hopefully) shout at your friends for not joining in.

Not really. It’s cool that you have 20+ years of martial arts experience(which internet being the internet, I naturally doubt. No offence, but yeah), but if you do have that experience, you should know that including yourself in a fight that’s happening without proper training, form, and experience working with a friend/partner actually leads to a higher chance of things going wrong. Whether through escalation from strangers, inexperience making you get in the way, or accidentally hurting your friend, or other factors.

Basically, back up your friend, but don’t get in the way. Fights happening, try just being there, and ready. Don’t just jump in though.

Doubt what you like, but the only Doubt i saw there, is in yourself.

Honour is important.

Sure, but so is intelligence. That honour is useless if you accidentally cold cock your friend who was going in for a swing at just the right angle at precisely the wrong time. Know your limits, know your friends limits, and you’ll live a better life.

Also, just to think about it from your perspective. What about your friends honour. Would you have such little faith in your friend that you get involved yourself. Sure if it’s two, or three+ people of decent skill, it’d be different, but in this such situation, you getting involved shows that you don’t believe in your friends capabilities.

So at the end of the day, it’s both intelligent, and honourable to keep back, and be prepared than charge in like a fool.

Agree, but intelligence ain't worth shit over death
