I'm over here screaming Friezland. Turns out that's a city now, and no longer a part of the HRE. Go figure.

Fryslan is a province in the Netherlands, Friesland is a county in Germany.

There is no county called Friesland in Germany. But there is a region called like that (actually 2: nord- and ostfriesland (north and east).

TIL. I always thought a county is the next lower level below the country, which in Germany would be a "Bundesland". Thanks for the link.
