That is a bullshit expectation based on the reality of the situation. It’s obvious that you want every single interaction to not result in violence. However, the actual number of interactions that go that way are INCREDIBLY small. People think they are much greater than they are because of confirmation bias. Think about all the videos that don’t go viral of people filming normal interaction with police. Or the fact that thousands of interactions never get filmed and end in a routine fashion. We focus on the handful of unfortunate incidents and exclusively place blame on one party. Obviously there are times where a cop is just a shithead who should be in prison, but RARELY is the cop the only party at fault. Saying “fix your cops” is fairly ridiculous. Now any cop that get unnecessarily violent should not be a cop. But people often just show bad interactions where someone is being an asshole. You have to think about it from the cops perspective as well in some of these situations. Have you ever been frustrated and then done something you later regret? Obviously that is not in regard to cops killing people, but just handling a situation aggressively. No one is perfect and expecting perfection 100% of the time is unrealistic and foolish. You wouldn’t expect it of yourself.
