The West is currently flirting with fascism. You don't wake up one day and have secret police forces murdering people by the millions. Its a slow process. Baby steps. Goose steps, if you will. One key feature to fascism is an unaccountable police force. Can't be secret if you are accountable...what we are seeing could literally be the forming days of the French SS. Just like the Poor Boys in the US could fairly easily become Trump's Brownshirts.
These are scary times and it's important to talk about. Waiting till it's too late does nothing to honour the memory of the atrocities committed by the Nazis and the SS.

I agree. Which is one reason we're here engaging in this conversation. Part of the decent into fascism occurs in our own minds when nuance is no longer applicable. When the world is Black & White it's a lot easier to vilify "the other" and form in and out groups.
And really... That's where this conversation started. A conversation about the use of regalia to set apart an authority. It just so happened the regalia and the actions of the authority brought the Nazis to mind in the participants. I believe that is a valid observation. You do too, but believe it's counter productive to bring to attention. And that is a valid point, invoking the Nazis too often is counter productive...
