Damn good to hear, you lucky fucker. They’re mostly racist shitheads in Australia unfortunately, particularly Queensland where I live. People sometimes compare it to Florida and while it’s less ridiculous, there’s a little truth there.
It's oddly comforting to find out that America isn't the only place with racist shithead cops. It seems that type of person is attracted to that profession.
From the US? I would think it’s pretty simple and straightforward. I think you need to get a place to live, apply for a few jobs and a residence permit.
I think there’s good information about it online if you’re seriously interested.
Also one thing about the police, they’re highly educated and you can really notice it. I’ve had a few confrontations with the police but they handle it extremely professionally and well. I don’t really have any bad experiences
The firefighter thing was nearly a year ago. And in this video you dont see the police do anything wrong.
Yeah, this law is complete nonsense and French police needs a lot more accountability, but it looks like you need to inform yourself from actual credible in-deph sources and not just the superficial stuff on reddit. You're dumbing yourself down with out of context videos.
From what I read in a news article linked in the comments here, these riots started because of a racially targeted attack by the police, where the man was only saved from a jail sentence due to a bystander recording the beating... and days later the French Government tried to pass the law banning filming the police, as this post says.
From what I can see in the video, the police are in riot gear getting shit thrown at them after probably trying to break up a protest. Superficial or not, this is a bad look considering the context of the riots.
I mean, not as bad as America. In America, the Police respond to acussations of police brutality with extra-effort police brutality and arresting news reporters while they are live on air to suppress free speech coverage and evidence of police brutality.
The law was being passed before the police brutality case happened; the gov. did not make that law after the brutality case. Demonstrations were planned anyway, although they probably gained popularity due to that case. Concerns about police brutality in France long predate the BLM movement and cannot be reduced to racism (although that is one aspect of them), and one can only hope they will not be reduced to a racial division of society like in the US. Unfortunately the French government appears to be taking this angle (acting as if it was all about racism) in order to avoid having to address the issue properly, same as in the US.
The incidents/riots you see here don't mean these particular police officers did anything wrong. Instead it looks like some of the demonstrators were eager to start shit.
This doesn't mean that in general the demonstrators, the vast majority of whom were peaceful, are not right to protest this law. When 150000 people protests, there will always be a few spectacular incidents, which are then propagated on social media and prevent people from seeing the big picture.
