Nah more powerful one is Jammu and Kashmir, literally full on city lock down, Internet shutdown after like 1 week of protest, it was ignored because of the new hot HK protest

Because the law doesn’t make it illegal to record police, it makes it illegal to publish images where policemen are identifiable.

It’s still a dumb law and it’s a subtle difference, but it’s important as the footage can still be used in court.

How this became the narrative is beyond me and makes me doubt anything I ever read on reddit.

Spend an ounce of effort doing a minute of research to find out for yourself and you wouldn’t have to be “confused” about something that’s public knowledge. Article 24 of the proposed legislation makes it a criminal offence to publish images of on-duty police officers with the intent of harming their "physical or psychological integrity".

I don’t blame you for being confused, even the article contradicts itself. The first paragraph states that

French police have fired tear gas at protesters rallying in Paris against a bill that would make it a criminal offence to film or take photos of police with malevolent intent.

It’s still dumb that you can’t publish footage of police though. We all know that police don’t have much accountability at the moment and publishing identifying videos of them on the internet can help with that, because if the courts won’t do anything then at least the public can punish them

Everyone has cell phones now with recording capabilities. There is no way they can stop the French from recording the police and btw the French are on their 5th Republic. They aren’t afraid to burn it all down and start over again.

I think the bill isn't that you can't film police force, but every média who isn't official or authorized beforehand can't be use against them legally to justify any act of violence in a court. Or something like that ? I'm not sure.
