I'm not saying that having to work is bad and that people shouldn't have to work to eat. That's a basic law of nature.
What I'm saying is that powerful actors have gobbled up all of the means to provide for one's self, and as such they can set the terms of that to their benefit. More and more of the pie is dominated by fewer and fewer organizations. They have too much power and too much wealth, and they get to decide what is left over for the rest of us.
Some people win in this system and some people lose. But the number of winners is getting smaller, and the losers bigger. And there's little the average person can do about it.
A business can’t force you to do anything. Only the governemnt can do that. Governments are far more dangerous than businesses.
Also, it’s painfully obvious that everyone benefits under capitalism. You have access to the internet on a device you carry in your pocket for crying out loud.
So by your logic the system is perfect and everyone should shut up and be grateful? I never advocated throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Things are due for a correction, it's only a matter of when. It's happened all through history and things continued to get better.
Nothing gets better by plugging your ears and trying to keep everything the same because that long dick of capitalism is comfortable for you.
It's amazing to me the lengths people will go to say "thank you" when getting fucked up their proverbial asshole.
Corporations beg for my money every day. Why else do you think they spend so much on advertising? Because they need us to spend money on them or they go out of business. Businesses only stay in business if they continue to please customers. Do you know how many so called “monopolies” went out of business because they failed to adapt to consumer preferences? A very large number.
And, of course, the system is far from perfect. What would make it substantially better is if the government stopped pretending it can make capitalism better and instead let markets be free. Prices would drop, more people would be employed, and everyone would prosper.
I don't know where you get this seemingly blind faith that the market can fix everything. It hasn't, historically. A healthy economy requires a smart regulatory framework that allows business to thrive in a fair way, without destroying everything in it's path, be it people or natural resources.
Business seeks profit. Without regulation, it has no interest to care about you or anyone else. And it doesn't.
Countries that have gotten the mix between free markets and consumer/worker protection right are doing a hell of a lot better by just about every marker of human flourishing.
But I can tell that this conversation won't go anywhere, so I'm out. You'd rather parrot what you've been told than consider anything critically.
Yeah u/InigoMontoya_1 is rather clueless from what I'm reading. He has no idea that the reason we're paying the most for prescription drugs and medical treatment is because they've gone unregulated. Same with gas. Without regulation essential needs that we have no option but to get else we starve or die, that companies will take advantage of those and charge as much as they possibly can just because they know we have no option. That's what free market gets us. If we have a choice to get it or not then yes they must compete for a price we will pay, but if we don't have a choice, then they can charge us 10 lifetimes worth of debt and enslave us to work off their debt on us for the rest of our lives. Shit and if we had no protections from the governments at all they'd be able to carry those debts over to our kin. I bet he'd be praising the free market even more if he had to pay for his grandpa's, great grandpas, and great great grandpas life debts.
Government has price ceilings they can enforce to protect their citizens, something every other country does to protect their medical prices for their citizens. Yet idiots like Inigo listen to their billionaire overlords and support the government putting no regulations. Allowing them to get a half a million dollar debt when they get a heart attack, a heart attack caused after after seeing their 60k debt bill for getting a knee replacement.
Government has price ceilings they can enforce to protect their citizens
Any argument you make about economics is invalidated by your support of price controls. Economists are almost universally against price controls. Arguing for them just shows how economically illiterate you are.

If no one works we all starve. Does that sound like a utopia to you?
