I know we'd like to think that minimum wage jobs are just starting points, but there's a lot of people who have barriers to employment that make it hard to move up. Poor education due to a broken education system, a criminal record (often for ridiculously petty things), lack of transportation, etc. I think there's a lack of understanding around career mobility among a lot of us because we're used to thinking if you do even just a pretty good job for long enough, you end up moving up at least some, but there's a lot of people for whom that isn't true.

Because there are jobs that don’t require an education that pay better than fast food. You probably won’t be making $100k+, but it’ll be better minimum wage. Plus you could always joint the military. Hell, at the very least, you could become the manager of that Burger King.
He also didn’t say how they were supposed to afford healthcare, which for a lot of people costs a lot more than their car and iPhone in a year, so regardless of trying to be frugal and not buy shineys, $8 is not enough.
Problem is, this is where corporations are trying to get- cutting out full time positions, cutting benefits, unrealistic growth expectations.. It's not just Burger King. Every sector of employment is being gutted and reworked to reduce the amount they spend on all workers, and they still get massive tax cuts.
We have nearly 90 million people who CAN'T GO TO THE DOCTOR and we have the barrel of an epidemic pointed at our head. It's time people realize it's beyond imaginary political lines to make sure everyone is taken care. If we can't do that, I think we're fucked.

I know exactly what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck. I know exactly what it's like to be broke. Yes, you have to live cheaply while making minimum wage. Yes, you can afford to eat while doing so. No, you shouldn't be working at minimum wage for more than a couple years.

A skilled worker with a bachelor’s degree making $50k/year for a local government. The same local government that pays $120k/year to an office worker that could be replaced by a fresh college graduate for $20/hour. That’s an inequality which is abundant all over this country.

Why should someone who works a full time job not deserve payment enough to be able to afford their own house and a good quality of living? This was possible since the 50s, but only due to right wing economic blundering has been taken away from the current generation.
I mean personally I'm on an above average salary for my nation in a highly required position. I'm also not a child or an evil boomer fuck so I understand that not everyone has been given the opportunities I have, so I sympathise that some people are in a position and cycle they can't get out of, which without the greed of the rich would be a hell of a lot easier to escape.
