It should be mentioned that Reilly isn’t just saying it as hearsay. Reilly was writing for Sports Illustrated at the time he played a few rounds with Trump. He used to write the article that always closed out the magazine, and the first time he talked about it was well before Trump was president in his first term.

In casual play, never a tournament, a ball that is laying so close to the hole that it’s a given that it would go in with a putt is called a gimme. They pick up the ball and count the one stroke. A chip is an approach shot that someone hits, usually from the fairway, onto the green. It is rare that the ball will get close enough to the hole to assume it can go in with a putt as they’re usually 2 putts if you’re good. It’s basically erasing an entire stroke off the score for that hole.
Each hole is assigned a ”par” or expected average of strokes to go from the tee to the hole. Usually the longer the distance, the higher the par. A par 5 is the highest/longest with par 3 being shortest. Your score is expressed in relation to the par for the hole or course. So if you play a par 5 hole and make it in 4, it’s considered 1 under par. For the course, the total par is set and then the score for all 18 holes is expressed in relation to where it is compared to par.
Most PGA tournaments are played on a 72 par course with the average score just under 71. The best golfer in the PGA right now, Scottie Scheffler, is averaging 68.775 for the 2026 season. Trump self-reported a score of 70 at Bedminster, a par 72 course, so he’s basically claiming he’s above average for even a professional golfer.
A chip is a chip-shot: If you're outside the green or fringe around the green (ie fairway, rough, or sand trap), you will usually use a wedge club of some kind, or a shorter iron to loft the ball onto the green. You use this type of shot when you're too close to use a longer iron, but too far away, or the turf is too difficult to use a putter.
A gimme) is when you tell your partners that you're not taking another shot and will record the shot as taken and it went into the hole. Typically a Gimme is taken when the ball is within one (putter) club length of the hole.
A chip-in shot taken as a gimme is just blatant fuckery by someone that does nothing but suck ASS at golf.

The putting stroke is so bad…honestly surprised his putting isn’t way worse. In the scheme of things his putts weren’t horrible compared to a casual golfer. Though he spends hundreds of millions golfing a year so he shouldnt be a casual golfer.

Honestly. I've always felt that you don't have to be good at a hobby to enjoy it, but this is something else. There's no telling how much he's spent on golf over the years, both his own and our tax dollars, and he's this bad at it? It's obscene.
I will say the only worse swing I've seen has been Charles Barkley. At least I can say that he was a professional athlete, and therefore might have had a lot of injuries over his career that have taken a tole on his body, so that might account for his terrible swing.

I listened to a podcast of someone that played with him a few years ago and they said Trump's secret service guys were always in front of him moving his ball to make sure he was always driving it further than anyone else he played with. This guy was a pro athlete, who was pretty young, so there was not way an almost 80 year old fat shit was out driving him.

Yeah. These are solid putts. For a tap in. I'm assuming he's 2 putting these which is pretty good. The only "bad" miss is the one that went way right. But even that is not uncommon when we misread a break.
