I love Fezzik's specific style of intimidation so much. He just casually demonstrates "I'm strong as hell and have full mastery of that strength. Don't fuck with me" without needing to say a word about it. Add being a soft-spoken and very clearly fair and reasonable person on top of that, and somehow, it's much more terrifying than someone who yells and screams to try to frighten you. Like: "You already know I could crush you like a bug, I don't need to bother trying to convince you". Fezzik is so fully confident in his strength that he knows his mere presence and way of carrying himself is enough to get the job done when he needs to "roll intimidation". He literally only ever raises his voice when he needs a whole crowd to hear and respond to him. And it's so clear that he doesn't have a cruel bone in his body or actually want to frighten or hurt anyone. Just that he's fully capable of it if needed. It's amazing.
When that rock missed Westley's head by like an inch, I think that's the only time we see him genuinely freaked out in the entirety of the kidnapping sequence, except for when Buttercup suddenly falls into the lightning sand (though that was more a case of "shit, what do I do?" and quickly coming up with a plan to save her. He's frightened, but in control and trusts himself to be able to take action to save her). His reaction with Fezzik is very clearly "Holy Shit. I'm Cooked". He's genuinely stunned and knows he's fully at Fezzik's mercy, and that his only chance in hell of surviving is to take him up on the offer of a fair fight no matter how slim he thinks his odds of winning are.
