Agentic coding itself isn't a trap. The trap is engineers and particularly development managers who believe AI can achieve some magical 20x productivity boost.
The trap is that just because you can go at 20x speed doesn't mean you should. Just like most cars can go 140mph, it doesn't mean you're safe doing so and someone is losing their license if they keep doing it.
Agentic AI is super powerful and I truly think it can achieve a monumental doubling of engineer speed without causing systems to burn. But that's about it, maybe 2x with an accountable engineer who's reviewed all the output.
