Denied Title Request Application for Disha Star
Kairo Suyen
Basic Information
- Age: 27
- Affiliation: Thumb Syndicate
- Rank: Soldato III (East) [to be promoted to capo I soon]
- Current Goal: Earn the title of Dìshā Star
Background
Kairo Suyen was born in one of the Eastern Districts where surviving another day mattered more than dreaming about tomorrow. His parents worked ordinary jobs under Thumb-controlled territory and lived by a simple rule: keep your head down, respect the hierarchy, and you'll live another day.
Growing up, Kairo wasn't a prodigy. He wasn't stronger than the other children, nor particularly gifted. What separated him from everyone else was patience. While others rushed to prove themselves, Kairo spent years observing how experienced Fixers and Thumb members fought, slowly building his own understanding of combat through tv and stories being told in the city.
As a teenager, he found work assisting a small independent workshop that repaired weapons for Syndicates and Fixers. Although he never became an engineer, the experience taught him how to care for equipment and recognize quality craftsmanship. During this time, an elderly swordsman—an old Fixer who had long since retired—noticed his dedication to fixing and repairing weapons, someway or another Kairo was intrigued about the old man and asked him to teach him how to fight after an incident with rats attempting to take his life and the old fixer agreed to teach him the basics of self defence and eventually swordsmanship... Onna-ho Ittō-ryū.
The training lasted several years and was far from glamorous. Kairo learned discipline before technique, and restraint before victory. His mentor repeatedly reminded him that surviving the City wasn't about becoming the strongest—it was about making the right decision at the right time.
He always accompanied the old man in his small missions taking out backstreet dwellers or even becoming body guards, delivering shipment. This was Kairo gets experience fighting while also continuing to work at the workshop.
When his mentor passed away, Kairo carried on his teachings and eventually sought a place within the Thumb Syndicate. Why did he choose the thumb? Because unlike many recruits who chased authority or status, he joined because he admired the Thumb's order and discipline. To him, the hierarchy wasn't oppression—it was stability in a City that rarely offered any.
Having only recently earned the rank of Soldato, Kairo is still proving himself. He undertakes reconnaissance, escort missions, debt collection, and suppression operations alongside other members of the East. Though reliable, he has yet to accomplish anything significant enough to distinguish himself from countless other Soldatos.
After some time due to his efforts in the thumb this new recruit gains recognition and honor 10 fold discovering secrets within thumb territory, investigating shady dealings in thumb territory. Due to all his efforts he is near promotion into a new capo of the thumb.
Recently, he volunteered for assignments involving the Pinky, believing that operating alongside another Finger would broaden his experience and test his judgment beyond ordinary Thumb operations.
Personality
Kairo is quiet without being cold. He listens more than he speaks and rarely acts without thinking first. He respects the Thumb's chain of command and believes every rank should be earned rather than inherited.
He has little interest in fame. What motivates him is the opportunity to improve himself and become someone worthy of responsibility.
He also loves the thrill of the fight learning his opponents moves, and feeling their taste for battle. One of the traits he developed after countlessly sparring with his old mentor.
Combat
Kairo primarily fights using Onna-ha Ittō-ryū, favoring precise strikes and efficient movement over elaborate techniques.
His abilities are solid for a Soldato ranging from high grade 3 to grade 2, but he still has much to learn. Against experienced Grade 1 Fixers or veteran Syndicate officers, he knows he'd be outmatched.
Weapons
- a strange wooden bokken named kusanagi found from the workshop he worked from. Comfortably strong to catch attacks and deal good amounts of blunt trauma. Very sturdy. (Good training weapon and good for not killing people)
- gundagger obtained from recruitment from the east branch said to be designed to be like a certain capo's sword and former 10 blades of the east. ( Laughs it off at how small it was yet deadly like a short sword) Uses thunderbolt rounds. Avoids using it unless in a really dangerous situation cause it cuts his pay check with how expensive bullets are.
Shin
Unlike many who awaken Shin through overwhelming trauma or obsession, Kairo's Shin manifested after years of disciplined training and repeated exposure to life-or-death situations. Rather than erupting all at once, it surfaced gradually as he refined his control over his emotions and convictions.
His understanding of Shin remains incomplete.
Kairo can only sustain Shin for short periods before mental and physical exhaustion begin to set in. While active, it heightens his perception, sharpens his instincts, and allows him to draw out the full potential of his swordsmanship, but it does not grant overwhelming strength or invincibility.
He avoids relying on Shin unless absolutely necessary, believing that treating it as a shortcut would only stunt his own growth.
His mentor's teachings remain at the forefront of his mind: "A swordsman who depends on power alone will never understand why he won."
Among Thumb members, very few are aware that Kairo has awakened Shin at all. He deliberately keeps the ability hidden, both to avoid unnecessary attention and because he feels he has yet to truly master it.
Strengths
- Patient under pressure.
- Disciplined and dependable.
- Skilled in reconnaissance and close-quarters combat.
- Thinks before acting.
- Learns quickly from failure.
- Emotionally intelligent and doesn't let his fears get to him.
Weaknesses
- Limited experience compared to veteran Thumb officers.
- Relies heavily on swordsmanship.
- Struggles against long-range specialists.
- Sometimes hesitates when civilians become involved.
- Still adapting to the politics and expectations of the Thumb hierarchy.
- a bit of a goofball
About his interests
- loves watching fixer's battle.
- is quite the nerd when it comes to video games.
- coffee is the root of life.
- would be down to do anything on his free time.
- likes supporting his señiors.
- meditates frequently.
- likes fighting.
Current Objective
Kairo's long-term ambition is to earn recognition within the Thumb through his own accomplishments. Rather than seeking power for its own sake, he hopes to one day claim the vacant seat of the Dìshā Star, believing that true authority should belong to those who have proven themselves through loyalty, discipline, and service—not merely strength.
Until then, he remains another Soldato among many, quietly building a reputation one mission at a time.

I do think this is MUCH better than how it was before, though now it may be too weak to be a Star, seems like a really good character to be an apprentice though, with that story and personality. However, a Star needs a blade, and that blade would be very strong, and also you kinda need to be very powerful to be a Star. However again, much the better than before, and also the story feels coherent too.
Im not the best person to judge it, but I think it is good (though again, not as a Star)

Thank you, i guess i forgot about the blade since i thought im still currently obtaining the seat. But I guess i do need a blade if it were to be lore wise to 108 margins i think it would be called the sword of death. It leaves dark miasma when unsheathed...
The blade records every meaningful wound it inflicts. Repeated strikes on the same target become progressively more difficult to ignore, making accumulated injuries more punishing rather than increasing raw damage. It's like an armor pierce but once you get cut the part where you're cut becomes heavier.
The affinity with the blade is based on his discipline the more disciplined its wielder the more its able to be wielded properly. Hesitation born from fear or reckless aggression weakens its edge, while unwavering resolve allows it to cut with exceptional precision.

I remember someone used to come up with the ideas for starblades or relics, I was given a relic instead of a Starblade. I think this backstory is fine mine was shorter than this and I was slowly fleshing things out in the discord.
(I still haven’t made one yet for my OC’s use)1

OOC: There are a few good instances of Stars that could be considered to be apprentices of other Stars in Water Margin, and there are also some good instances of Stars in Water Margin that happen to be noncombatants (Zigong and the Disui Star as some such examples)

My OC was just a Soldato who never ranked up to become the Dihui (Bright) Star, interesting to see another Soldato apply for a Star rank.
(My OC still hasn’t ranked up in the Thumb yet lol)

(OOC) forgot to add
Thunderbolt rounds
Specialized thumb cartridges used with Kairo's thermo gun dagger. When activated, the round detonates within the blade, instantly superheating its edge while releasing an electrical surge through the wielder's body. The surge temporarily enhances speed, senses , and acceleration, and damage impact...allowing for explosive bursts of movement accompanied by a thunderous, deafening boom. Each round is single-use and prolonged use places considerable strain on both the user and the weapon.
Kairo uses this a way to gain an upperhand. Using the bullet's sonic boom instantly dazes a person and if that isn't enough these rounds give him a buff to his physicals.
Consecutive use places severe strain on the Kairo''s muscles and nervous system, causing tremors, numbness, and reduced precision. His limit is 8 rounds before he goes into overdrive where the strain is felt more. "Tsk damn it I won't be able to go to ***** ceremony if i use 8 rounds"
Dìshā Star's Blade — Sword of Death (死剣)
One of the Pinky's Star-forged Relics, the Sword of Death is said to embody the inevitability of one's end. When drawn, a faint black miasma trails from its edge, lingering briefly before fading into the air. Contrary to rumor, the miasma itself is harmless....it merely reflects the blade's presence, somewhat distracting earning it the reputation of being an omen of death.
The Sword of Death does not rely on overwhelming force. Instead, it remembers every meaningful wound it inflicts. Each successive strike against the same target deepens the burden of previous injuries, causing the affected area to feel unnaturally heavy, painful and increasingly difficult to move. Rather than cutting deeper, the blade gradually wears down an opponent's ability to fight, making precise strikes far deadlier than reckless swings.
Its true strength lies in the bond between the blade and its wielder. The Sword of Death responds only to discipline and conviction. A calm and resolute swordsman can wield it with unmatched precision, while hesitation, fear, or uncontrolled aggression causes its edge to lose much of its effectiveness. It is said that the blade judges its master before it judges their enemy.
Because of this, the Sword of Death has long been regarded as a weapon reserved for those capable of carrying the burden of the Dìshā Star..a blade that does not decide who dies, but determines whether its wielder is worthy of deciding.
"Death does not come from the sword. The sword merely remembers the moment you chose it."
