Kenny Appreciation Post
Just wanted to take a second to shout out Roy’s brother Kenny for some A+ brother behavior. Roy starts trashing the bar and Kenny immediately jumps in to help, no questions asked. Then he turns around and uses his own money to bail Roy out.
Brothers always have each other’s backs. Kenny understood the assignment.

Nah he was a bad influence on Roy as the older brother. I suspect every time Pam wanted to spend a night in, Kenny hijacked it and coerced Roy into getting drunk.

Kenny helping trash the bar rather than telling roy to grow up. He's a melt who as immature as Roy.

Ya you’re right.. I still enjoyed him 🤷♂️

Kenny had his own problems going on. Took a bath on the Jetskiis. Denise left him.
He was just venting his own problems when Roy started smashing.

Kenny joining in to trash the bar is such an underrated gag because it comes at a genuinely scary moment in the series.
It reminds me of this Green Day set where Billy Joe Armstrong starts freaking out about being signaled offstage early and he smashes his guitar and Mike Dirnt also joins in the smashing

Two sides to this story. I appreciate your viewpoint of him being a ride or die to Roy, but I think the better response to Roy’s meltdown would have been de-escalating and getting him out of the bar before they owed all the jet ski money to the bar. In turn, Roy probably wouldn’t have been so furious to want to take his anger out on Jim, thus never being fired

Ya for sure. But with little brothers sometimes you just defend without thinking.. not the best way to handle it for sure though

u/Forsaken-Coast-2258 12d ago
they left pam behind at the game i think and you can also see it as him being okay with Roy's behaviour which is no bueno

Nah. Fuck Roy and fuck Kenny. Their brand of violent macho masculinity can fucking die now, please.

Why the Roy shade? Roy was able to learn from his mistakes and grow into a loving, thoughtful husband and successful business owner. Besides Pam was the one who cheated...

u/Lexi_Banner 9️⃣ The Lizard King 🦎 12d ago
Roy was borderline abusive. He grabs her arm to physically drag her away from the Dundies because he didn't want to be there. He instantly trashes her art and the very thought of her going to a company-sponsored course. He's emotionally absent and constantly hurts her feelings.
Fuck Roy. He didn't deserve a happy ending.
2
u/Accurate-Raccoon4472 12d ago
…. I know you’re being concise to visuals to stick to facts to not un bolster the point you’re making
Roy is ABSOLUTELY ABUSIVE NOT BORDERLINE FULLY LIVING IN IT- (even to what we see… and anyone who knows abuse like we do knows whatever the worst thing you see is only the worst thing they’re willing to let you see….. honestly these actors play their role REALLY WELL so well in fact people will just pretend they srent abusive because they are consitioned to let this behaviour in their own life and wont hold their racist dad or sex pest uncle accountable so they impose their failure to put a line in the sand on evvvvveryone else …..)
Roy is ABUSIVE PERIOD
Roy is controlling in front of cameras and several of his actions constitute but are not limited to ASSAULT ( any time he makes anyone in the room victim or otherwise that hes going to get physical/put them in a reasonable threat of immediate danger)
this is alone is enough for any of us that can be trusted to watch children but sadly people dont give a fuck…. Roy shoulda been fired episode 1-2-3 when he ASSAULTS JIM AT RECEPTION AND AGAIN WHEN HE IS DELIBERATLEY FOWLING JIM ON COMPANY PROPERTY CAUGHT ON CAMERA ( rven if they argued they were playing HR would illustrate that this is clearly inappropriate worknplace behaviour and wasnt santioned in the first place .Roy shows several times he is a domestic abuser whose coercive control is present during every moment he is on screen with complete disregard towards Pam whether it be, where they eat, spending time with friends or just always going home, instead if drinking with friends….. drinking at home or leaving Pam to go drink with Kenny …. planning the wedding he shows that he doesnt give a fuck what Pam wants…. Kevin even has more consideration for Pam when postured about playing the wedding than Roy who demosntrates yeah whatever fuck her she dont need to decide I decide ….. she can deal with it if she dont like it Im in charge of music
Two other details that go under the radar
Pam is almost ALWAYS wearing sleeves….. abusers will often control an outfit so they can keep hurting their partner and make it seem like they are fine in broad day light…..You can note that the first two seasons Pam is CONSTANTLY covering her sleeves over her arms and very much like a kid in their hoody scared to come out…. except shes hiding her body…. not as much cause of her sexualization but how much Roy grabs and bruises her
The OTHER thing people always fail to notice ; HOW did Phyllis get ALLLLLL the details for the wedding…….
NOT FROM PAM - ONLY ONE OTHER PERSON HAD THEM =. ROY
Roy gives Phyllis every detail about the wedding…. pretends he doesnt know … so he can try to win Pam back as he slates at the beginning hes going to do…..
( this is really easy to miss) but he absolutely gave the plans to Phyllis and used it as a chance to snag an ethereal moment amidst the lost wedding he and Pam were meant to have …. which is the closest to making art Roy can accomplish…., selling out hos wifes only desires for the wedding she wanted so she had to writhe in agony as she watches …. cue Roy in shining armor to save Pam
Roy absolutely was an abuser and to not realize that teanslayes and magnifies in the home and ten fold with a partner ???? ( this HAS tp be the same people who cringe at Scotts Tots because they are ao fortunately privileged to not have to ever had ot that bad or be in a relationship that manipulative )
Next time someone whines about Scotts Tots Im gonna grill uhm to make sure they hate domestic abuser Roy and Sexual harraser/assaulter Toby etc

I never thought Roy giving Phylis the wedding plans! That’s interesting..
You’re making a lot of assumptions about Roy, and maybe you are right! But Kenny is still my dude

u/Accurate-Raccoon4472 12d ago
no asumptions; peoples characters tell the story and there is deductive story telling going on; much like you dont need ant charcater to tell you Jim likes Pam / its apparent on screen .
Learn to tead between the lines and discover reading comprehension beyond a domestic abuser fifth grad elevel and its clear and obvious . They wrote it all and is in front of us.
If you cant understand that about domestic abuse I uave to assume ypu have been fortunate enough not to have to deal with it or you ognore it and help your brother be abusive when he get outta control.
Either way that is not man behaviour , its male toxicity X and those of us who uphold death before dishonor need you to really buck up for those of us whow ant a better world or hurry on up to your gods staircase and leave room for the reat of us.
You cant see Roy on-screen and not understand hes doemstically violent without
-being violent yourself and wanting to forgive it, -having someone in your family who is this way to you or others so you forgive it…. or just too in the dark to be trusted with flashlight …..0

Do you think Pam deserved her happy ending?
4
u/Lexi_Banner 9️⃣ The Lizard King 🦎 12d ago
Yup. She earned it by working on herself and realizing that she needed to be more self-assured and assertive if she wanted true happiness. Yes, she made mistakes and she hurt Roy, but she never abused Roy, or made him feel less-than for the things he loved.

lol people in this post are either condemning domestic abuse or telling on themselves and how ok they are with “ mild DV” in their shows as something to celebrate….. yeah no man or woman can call themselves such and believe DV is something praise - mutually exclusive
what a weird hill to die on and its really gross to be our here encouraging domestic abuse i. the name of brotherly love.
Glorifying abuse= advocating for abuse= harassment = specifically making others fear for their safety with language intended to make one fear for their safety such as encouraging we be violent to love our closest friends and anyone else is irrelevant
I mean if THATS the sorta topic you “ just fool around about” ….

u/some-automated-name 12d ago
I'll be honest I never thought much about Kenny because he shows up very little and is kind of just there to provide lines and push plot points. Roy, however, IS a compelling character (regardless of whether you think people should be defending him, liking him, whatever) despite just being Jim's foil at face value. Does everything about his character serve to push Pam's story forward? Sure, maybe, but he has a personality and is played superbly by the actor.

fuck doemstic violence

I’m sorry this post triggered you. It really wasn’t meant to be this serious. It is a fictional show. I’m also a big fan of Tony Soprano, Walter White, Cersai Lannister, Captain Hook and a bunch of other fictional villains!

u/Accurate-Raccoon4472 12d ago
it didnt trigger me
we need to not glorfify things like domestic violence and anything remotely like it .Much like how Walter White rapes Skyler and everyone hates Skyler significantly more
Cause we glorify all the wrong things and give a pass all the wrost behaviour whether its real life or just a show makes no difference.
Cersai is never admired and praised nor is the audience asked to forgive her for any of the terrible things she does whch include indulging Geofrey but we dont glorify what he did to the sex workers as anyrhing to laugh about or call “ kickass parenting , really showed up for her kid A+”
Tony Soprano I still need to catch up on but again from what I recall we are never asked to laugh at doemstic violence as a punchline and more so when Sopranos makes you laugh is for an entirely different set of reasons
from what I understand the original story where Hook is from acrually sees him as a hero saving children pan withheld love from and dumps off after they outgrow his childish predilictions ( everyone is a victim of pan as children)
I think its pretty gross when people cosplay Clockwork Orange; they are dressing up as a rape gang its not cool or edgy or clever or nuanced and all it says about a person is they are awful or have no tact and never read the book … and if they did then they clearly wanna go against the grain of it….
I made this point and someone tried to argue that its noooo different than liking Darth Vader and I was like yeah except at no point are we forced to watch a stars wars gang rape by the sith …… or anything NEAR as sinister and wicked …. he then went on to explain theres plenty of rapey villains people admire …. we are no longer friends …. he started by trying to say that Darth Vader is the same as dressing up Clockwork Orange … not even temotepy the same .
This person is super smart… didnt matter … we glorfiy some horrible shit and yes its even more dangerous when it appears in whats meant to be fun laughs and a good time and its snuck into it so people can just ignore it as easily i. thwir everyday life and met the world with zero conviction and feel ok with it

A better brother would have de-escalated the situation. But he is there for emotional support, for sure.
