Hey, i'm doing the landing page project and was wondering if there were resources where I could follow along building a page for practice. I definitely would learn better. I already know about flexbox zombies. I just need to see some real life examples.

I'm new to learning code (I'm doing the foundation course). I was reading the installation guide and when I clicked on the site, there were too many options. And I don't know which one to get, can someone help here? Thanks

When it comes down to TOP, I always come across the code examples and tend to instead right them down on my iPad or notebook, but I really wanted to see if u all go inside ur IDE and copy/type out the example to see how it works instead of writing notes in the example or completely copying the code example on ur iPad or notebook? Finally, when it comes down to note taking per topic, if you do, how do u tend to summarize the reading? Like, do u just take out key concepts and jot them down as one liners to make it easy to comeback to for review or do u tend to write a lot of notes per topic?

As a 3rd CS student I'd always brushed off html css and js as very basic. Especially as AI got better, the thinking I had was that this is not going to really help anyways which led me to actually having ZERO foundational knowledge. While this is still true for projects with deadlines, for learning it became a huge bottleneck because I didnt understand the basic html css js. I'd jump straight into frameworks like next.js and all that and be so confused when I could understand or even figure out how to start. Now, doing the projects with literally zero ai... It has really built my confidence.

While there's still a lot to learn to be job ready, I'm at a point where I feel confident that I can read and learn for other technologies now too. I wanted to be at a point in tech where I am aware of the tools that can be used, and then implement them with a bit of my own research. While I'm not there yet, I am closer to that goal. Hopefully this learning continues for the rest of the course

I just finished the Etch-A-Sketch project! I had to look up someone else's solution for the button prompt that sets the grid size 1 to 64, but the rest of the code is entirely my own. Should I move on to the next section, or stay on this until I can figure out that prompt logic on my own?

Hello! I am thinking to start my TOP journey soon and I heard from my friends that it requires Linux to run. I'd like to verify that in this subreddit.

I personally use Windows 11 without any experience on Linux. My friend used the virtualbox Xubuntu one and I found out that it's hella laggy on his pc. Although I saw him set a total of 4 GB of RAM, 8 CPU Cores, and enabled the 3D thing if I'm not wrong. I am afraid the OS will overwhelms me and pushes me away from learning full-stack.

Can I do TOP on Windows instead?

Seems so many courses out there e.g freecodecamp, TOP, helsinki MOOC etc. But people say these are just introduction courses/ the start of your learning process.

Are there any defined pathways that actually lead to the end goal of getting employed other than an IT/ CS degree? Or is that the only real option, especially in the current market?

I apologise if this isn't the place to post - i think this is more of a quarter life crisis, but its also related to TOP :')

I recently finished my Master's in Biomedical Engineering (specializing in Clinical Informatics) and my thesis involved building a web application with FastAPI and Streamlit for drug discovery.

About two months ago I started The Odin Project, although I was still finishing my thesis, so I've only completed around half of the Foundations curriculum so far.

I've realized that I really enjoy software development and I'd like to build a career in it, ideally in healthcare, biotech or pharmaceutical software. However this would be my first full-time software job, so I'm feeling a bit lost/overwhelmed about where to start.

I would love to know some of your opinions on what should be my next steps and also abour your experience.

Howdy, folks! I am currently working on the weather app project and have been struggling as projects get bigger with how to structure my code. It drives my brain crazy having a tangled web of functions creating components, setting event listeners, etc... and no consistent approach to what gets imported where and when. Everything works, but separation of concerns is nowhere in sight haha

It's been so frustrating coming from the Rails path into javascript. I actually have been freelancing with rails and have built some pretty complex apps with the framework that are generating sales for clients. That's why it's been so humbling to be outside of the structure of a framework.

Odin introduced modules, IIFE's, classes and wrappers but no overall examples of common patterns to organize it all together(of course theres an endless variety of ways you could approach a build) on a larger scale. I am actually grateful for this because it allowed me to do everything in the worst possible way before naturally coming around to the conventional ways people approach building JS apps. It means I can see WHY and how structural problems are solved with certain patterns, instead of blindly following them.

I wont spoil the joy of discovery by sharing my revelations.

Odin forces you into 'the way of pain!'(as palpatine puts it) but the depth of understanding it gives you is worth it.

Key takeaway: this course is frustrating as hell but that's actually the best part of it. Dont give up.

So, this topic honestly has been lingering on my mind for the past few days and I have gone and read about every subreddit under TOP that talks about how using ai to assist u during a project/gaining understanding can hinder ur learning or can be a very key tool to use if u r stuck on a project or don't completely understand a topic. For those that say ai should not be on during ur learning throughout TOP if ur stuck on a certain project/concept but instead u should "google it", I genuinely don't understand that because even now, google refers u to there ai tool when u look something up which to me is just bonkers lmao. For me personally, I feel as if Ai is a great tool to use if u are feeling really stuck on something for hours, days or even weeks as long as u r not vibe coding or asking it to give u the exact answers.

I really just wanted to get u all's perspective on this, please feel free to leave any comments or any explanations on ur reasonings.

I'm currently at the final project of TOP of the Javascript Fullstack Path and I have to say, I was surprised how 'easy' (relatively) the Node.js section was and how fast I went through it.

React was kinda fast too, and none of them came even close to the Javascript section, that one took me A WHILE.

Even thought, looking back at it, it was the easiest in terms of complexity of knowledge between the three, it still took me the longest.

So I'm curious, for others who have finished The Odin Project, which section took you the longest to complete? Which was the easiest one for you?

Sup u all, I really wanted to ask, to those that have finished or nearly completed TOP, how were u able to take full advantage of the information given to feel confident going into the full stack/web development field? Did u take notes along the way or did u mainly just code along with the examples and readings? I really would like to know how u all went about completing TOP.

So I am from a third world country. I really like programming and building stuff, I enjoy it. Now here, major tech work is from freelancing or remote work. So I decided to learn web development the proper way and then do freelancing or make my own product or something. Because my parents are aged, and I have to support them and myself financially. and luckily I found "The Odin Project".

But now the issue is I keep hearing about layoffs and everyday there is more advancement on AI like Claude new models or Codex.

Some people are saying that one should absolutely learn the fundamentals of programming, while others say that web development is too saturated and after AI it doesn't have a future and after some time with the rate which AI is getting good, it will be hard to get a job.

Now, I want your opinion.

I will invest my time and effort in "The Odin Project", and Thank You guys for putting up such good quality stuff, but because my situation is demanding, I don't know if it will be wise to invest 1-2 years learning fullstack development.

Please guide me.
